HI, MY NAME IS ALICIA AND I HAVE BEEN RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH TYPE 2 BIPOLAR DISORDER. I AM A FULL TIME COLLEGE STUDENT AND MOTHER OF 2. I HAVE A FIANCE NAMED SHANNON AND HE AND I HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOR 5 YEARS. BIPOLAR DISORDER TYPE 1 DOES RUN IN MY FAMILY BUT I NEVER EXPECTED THAT I WOULD HAVE IT MYSELF. SINCE BEING DIAGNOSED I HAVE REALLY STARTED TO NOTICE THE INCONSISTANCY IN MY ATTITUDE AND EMOTIONS. THERE ARE STILL MANY THINGS IM CONFUSED ABOUT BUT I AM WILLING TO HEAR WHAT ANYONE HAS TO SAY ABOUT THIS CONDITION. THANK YOU.Smile

Hi Alicia, I have paid attention to my condition after being diagnosed ten years ago. I have participated in groups that were meeting at a certain place and I have been on this site for a few months. For me this site is more affective than the group sessions. Mainly because I do not have to take away 2 hours on the day of the session to meet a a certain time and location. This web-site has a lot more detail into medications. People share that information more willingly on this site. As we all know there is no cure, so be brave, share and listen to your doctor. Choose not to let bi-polar define who you are.Smile

Hello Alicia, welcome to the group. I've noticed the symptoms before my diagnosis, but didn't know what it was. I was always told it was depression. In 2009 I got correctly diagnosed. I was relieved to get the diagnosis because it gave me a name to my feelings. I now know why I feel the way I do. With the proper medications, I have become stable for five months and it's a great feeling. Feel free to ask any questions you want here. There are great people that really want to help in this group and will be here for you. Don't let the disorder define you. You have bipolar, you aren't bipolar. Please message me if you would like to talk anytime.
