Hi, my name's Vicki. I'm a 19 year old from Ontario Canada.

A week before Christmas I was diagnosed with Bi-polar 2. I had strugged in high school with my moods but it was over looked because my parents were getting seperated. At that time I had been labelled as Major Depressive Disorder.

I am now in my second year of University and had to leave school 2 weeks early because I had become manic and couldn't write exams. This was devastating.

I went home and started a treatment of meds, under careful watch of many doctors. I'm now back at school but am left to deal with this disease.

I am young, scared and need to know that you can live a long life despite this emotional rollercoaster I am on. I need answers; I'm hoping to find them here.

Take care, Vicki

Take care,
Vicki

Meds:
Abilify 15mg
Lamactil 300mg
Alertec (modafinil) 400mg
Pristiq 50mg

I have taken so many antidepressants and they never really worked too well I would end up getting worst or nothing at all was helping. I was recently diagnosed with Bipolar 2 and am still learning a lot too. We are in the same boat. Go ahead and ask any questions or voice any fears you have, feel free, we are here to help you out!

Hi Vicki and welcome! This a very supportive group who care, share, listen and help each other out. You have come to the right place Smile

I'm sorry that you had to leave school early; as hard as it may be to accept, your health is the most important thing right now. Being diagnosed is not always easy, but you now have an explanation as to what happened and have been able to get the help you need. I'm glad you've been to the docs and are on meds.

Are you on a mood stabilser? This should help you feel more balanced.

You will be able to live a productive, happy life once you are stabilised. We all have our off days, but doesn't everyone Wink Keeep posting, I look forward to getting to know you better. Hugs, Bridget Smile

Welcome to the group! I too was up and down with my mood in high school and my parents split a couple years prior. I tried to attend college several times before I was diagnosed and failed each time, but you feeling scared is normal at first and you need to know you're not alone. We are all here for you with any questions you have and will help you through this. Take care and stay positive,

Vicki, I'm very happy that you found out your diagnosis at such a young age. That means with the right meds you will have a more "normal" life than a lot of us have had who were mis-diagnosed for years and years. I was diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome and acute depression when I was 40 after years of battling depression and mania from my teenage years.. It wasn't until I was 50 that I was diagnosed bi-polar. Like you I was put on anti-depressants for years which never helped but to make me more crazy. I'm much better now and at this time am experiencing a stable period. Ask any questions you want. No one here will judge you or criticise you. You've come to the safest place on the planet to discuss your issues with bp or anything else that its bothering you. Be free to be you.

Bobby

Welcome! I am so grateful that you found us. You are so not alone in this at all, we are all here to support you every step of the way. This disorder can make like extemely difficult it is not cureable but with a good pdoc and the proper treatment it is absolutely manageable and yes you can have a very fullfilling happy life. I am a happily married, mother of 3 beautiful daughters. I have been with my husband for 14 years married for 10. Some think there is no hope for committed relationships with Bipolar but many sufferers will disagree. For some it takes a little trial and error and for some it takes longer to find the right med combo to gain stability. In my case it took me longer but once I did it was an overwhelming feeling of happiness I hadn't remembered feeling, my moods were gone along with anxiety, depression, psychosis and aggitation. I feel great, I don't feel drugged I actually feel "normal". It's also all about time and patience when you feel like giving up you have to tell yourself NO I want to be better, I will be better! Never give up on treatmement it's never worth it. You are important, your health is important. You may suffer from Bipolar but Bipolar does NOT have you! Best of luck. Keep smiling and please keep posting. Big hugs, Stacey Wink
I suffer from Rapid Progressive MS, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, Epilepsy, Migraines, Neuropathy, IBS, Narcolepsy, Arrythmia, Arthritis and too much more complete list on profile.

I'm not currently active due to many personal and medical issues. I will not be participating in MDJ for awhile, my thoughts and prayers are with everyone. I hope everyone is well and I appreciate all of the thoughts, kind words and messages. I have tried to respond as much as possible and apologize if I have not gotten back to everyone. Welcome Vicki,

Glad you found this site. Its taken me 2 years to find a good BP2 site. I have also wondered the same things about life. Never found an answer. I do know that a person with BP2 can live a good life and have a decent career. Worst part is finding the right meds. After that and your stable life is pretty manageable.

Hope everything works out for you.

peace & hugs

Hello Vicki,

Looks like the welcome mat has already been laid out. Dealing with BPII issues are as challenging as anything life can throw at you. You do not have to suffer alone. Consider this place your shelter from the storm.
