I built this office in the past four years for a prominent national engineering firm and now that it's thriving they don't need me anymore. It's agonizing to birth and nurture something along like this only to have it ripped out of your life. I've been mostly managing engineering businesses and managing related things for contractors for many years and there aren't many jobs out there that fit what I need/want.

I've lived where I am for the past 12 years and everything that's important to me is right here so I'm near deathly afraid that I won't find anything in this area and then my life will be uprooted with all the associated unpredictabilities. I'm praying I get a positive phone call and offer tomorrow from the only local prospect, but things seldom happen in my timeframe so I might be in for a long wait. Very anxiety provoking situation and BP just magnifies the feelings of devestation all that much more. Thanks for the encouragement.

Lobo, I can identify with your loss of "identity" when you lost your job. I took a lot of pride in what I did for a living for 10 years. It took a lot of talk therapy and stumbled on a book called the A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle. He speaks of the Egos need to play roles and that you are not your role. It speaks to this "loss of identity" and releases you to a new peace. Good luck!

Lobo, was just catching up on this thread, have you thought about becoming free-lance? if I read your post right, you "manage" businesses, is that right? you could do contract work, where you go where ever they want your expertize, and charge enough money to able to take a break basically when ever the need hit.. you chose your hours, etc..

If I read it wrong and you actually create a business, like owning your own place, but the pink slip is in someone elses name, how about opening your own out of the house for the moment and stealing back the customers you helped to bring to the other place..? I am kinda a believer in revenge when it comes to someone screwing you over... I'm a good person, very giving, but will not stand still for being taken advantage of..

Thanks for the question. Right now I am doing free lance work for a firm in Orlando and that at least gives me some purpose. I've thot about doing my own business and it might get to a point where I have no choice.

I really appreciate the input.
