I am so frustrated. I am capable of doing so much, but can do so little! I'm getting over my last episode. I can go to my husband's ofc, and do things there for him to get me out of the house and make minimum wage. I know this sounds so ungrateful, but, minimum wage!?!? I'm used to making more than 4x that amount! I am ready to make my normal wage now. I feel better already, but can't go back to work yet. I have to be very careful that my coworkers don't know I have BP because I'm a RN. Healthcare workers treat mental health patient's that they work with like they have the plague, and your competency as a healthcare provider is questioned with everything you do. The longest job I have ever had is 2 years, but average 4-5 months. I get paranoid that someone is going to find out I have BP. I have never gotten a bad performance eval, they are always glowing. But, I have a horrible fear of someone finding out, and me losing my license. Honestly, I may be capable of doing the job, but the stress/pressure of the politics is great, and really is not conducive to my mental health. I really need to find a different line of work. I'm a college grad, but it won't do me any good in another area of interest. Most areas would not allow me to ever get to the salary range that I am used to. Can anyone offer any suggestions?

Don't be afraid to go back to work because some of the bigest people in the world have Bi-Polar Robin Williams is BPII along with many others star look at Micheal J Fox he has parkinssn decease does that stop him .

and if people can handle who you are and what disorder you have then they are the ones that have a mental problem because at least you have the strength to go back to work

I am semi retired due to these disorders and a heart condition but I do like to write poetry and refinish furniture and i am and avid pool player

Oh and one more thing it should matter about what people think of you it's what you think about yourself that matters so let them think whatever they want

Santos welcome to the group, your going to be fine, just ignore the politics, and do what you love, do what you feel you do with flair, Lone is right what people think of you doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things, and in truth most people are so wrapped up in themselves that they rarely think of anyone else.

I am a clinical social worker and have the BPII diagnosis. I have been thinking a lot about work lately. I'm frustrated that I can't handle a full time job and that even part time seems too much some times. I feel like I should be able to because everyone else around me can. But the fact is, I know I have limitations and I have to take care of myself so regardless of what others are able to do, I'm not them. I do understand the stigma thing. For some reason, I find it far easier to talk about having ADD but I hide the BP diagnosis because I just think people don't understand it very well (and somehow it seems more like a mental illness, even though it's no different than other disorders that high functioning people have). My line of work is pretty stressful also, these helping professions. I wouldn't mind trying to find a different career, but like you, I don't want to just start at entry level again after working my way up. It seems so hard at mid-life to start over again. Plus we live in a rural area where there aren't too many options. Hang in there and try to resist the judgments and misinformation of other people. There are so many people out there with this diagnosis and many others (and many, many undiagnosed folks I'm sure, probably even among those around you in your profession, but hiding it just like you) so you're not alone.

We all have problems dealing with this disorder I know because we talk about it a lot but Sarachel said she like to try something different that is what I have been doing for me along with BPll,ADHD,dislexia I also Have a learning disability I can only learn things hands on I can not understand what is written in books so I have been teaching myself how to refinish furniture and I plan on going to school for wood working because it doesn't call out for using books that much so if you want to go back to work find something you really like to do and give it a whirl I hope to start my own bussiness when I get out of school

I have a license in Real Estate which is lapsed at the present, I just need to get some continuing education. There just isn't any money in real estate at the present. I'm checking other options. Any other ideas?

Hi,

You hang in there. Try a better diet of rich foods, prayer, laugh a lot, and be one with nature.
