Hey, Boy what a journey these last 8 yrs. have been and through it all my sleep patterns have been getting disabling. I'm not dependable.

Do any of you feel like you are stuck between sleep and wake, some mysterious half real world. Hypersomnia or hynogogic hallucinations? How do you deal with a problem like this. I mean I'm not awake so as to be able to deal with it.

Provigil, have any of you had success taking it? I may be starting on it tomorrow.

Thank you all,

Jeff Davis

I've suffered from insomnia for most of my life -- I'm 35 and remember being 8 years old and unable to fall asleep. I've tried everything, including sleeping pills (which I ended up abusing with alcohol, so I no longer allow myself those), but what's finally worked for me is Seroquel. It's an anti-psychotic that helps balance the highs and I take about 50-100mg at night (although you have to take it reasonably early to avoid the next-morning-grogginess), and it works incredibly well. For the first time, I'm getting good sleep and I cannot tell how good that feels. I don't know how that would interact with your current meds, and there is the possibility of some weight gain, but for me, the payoff of actual SLEEP is well worth it.

Good luck... nothing sucks worse than not sleeping well.

Sherry

Thanks, but my primary problem this last year or so has been waking up, not going to sleep.

I feel like I am awake and asleep at the same time. You can't get out of bed when you are in the trap.

Recently I have had less problems waking up and am still trying to identify why. I also have sleep apnea and use a CPAP to breathe at night.

I also have problems waking up- I always have. My brain doesn't work, and sometimes I feel asleep even after I've gotten to work. I get 8 hours of sleep a night and yet I never feel rested. And when I wake up I always feel dread. How about you?

Hey JD - I have been on Provigil and it was wonderful! I would be absolutely worthless in the afternoon. I take a half a pill during that time and I am back to functional. It keeps me alert, awake but not as if you are caffeinated! I took it for a few months and then my body seemed to bounce back. I only use it now when I need it. I hope it works well for you. It can really make you feel alive again. Good Luck

The longer I'm sober, the easier it gets to wake up. Then again the depression and anxiety seem to be lessening also. 7 months sober.

Jet and golferreal, are either of you also a substance abuser? How long does it take to fully recover from the disturbance in sleep patterns? I've heard people in AA say it took them over a year sometimes, some as little as 6 months.

I also have sleep apnea (stop breathing in sleep) and am using a CPAP to breathe. Excessive daytime sedation is not always completely cured and some are prescribed, guess what???,

PROVIGIL. I'm just wondering if it's OK for addicts. I tend to build up a tolerance quickly to anything addictive or end up abusing it. I also read that those with emotional disorders should discuss this with a doctor.

So I don't know. I'm trying to work again and kind of fear an 8 hour day without sleep. To answer you JET. Finally I am starting to feel more refreshed than I used to, but never entirely. I used to work in construction and you would think taht with all the physical activity going on that my mind and body would wake up. Not the case, I wouild ssometimes go until lunch before "waking up".

i THINK i'M JUST GOING TO START WORKING AND SEE IF i CAN MAKE IT OR NOT.

Jeff and golferreal- I chainsmoke cigarrettes- especially at night- which is a stimulant. And while I am getting adjusted to the Lamictal I am taking Klonopin a few times in the morning/afternoon. I don't drink, and I stopped smoking w**d. That was making me very sluggish and inceased my anxiety 10-fold! So, maybe that will help. I have cut out caffeine- which I miss so bad in the morning!!!!!!!!!!! Caffeine free tea is just not the same! I am also very afraid of taking meds that I can get hooked on- the Klonopin scares me to death- as of yet I have only taken 4 even though I still have a panic attack every other day. the anxiety is always there. And the depression- jeez- I cried for two straight days over the weekend. It's the tears then immediate "evil" temper that throws me off guard. But feeling sleepy and "dumb as a box of rocks" tends to make me crabby.
