I was wondering if this is normal. My husband has been newley dianosed as bipolar type II he has been on meds for two weeks now, I have noticed he has been in hypo mode for the majority of the day ,but at around eveing he becomes angry ,frustrated easily and depressed. And then a few hours later he can't stay still. He is on wellburtin and he just started Abilify.he is only on 10 mg and next week starting 20 .I was just wondering what may be going on this is all new behavior. Thanks ya'll

Blee, sounds like he is ramping up on the meds. Body is adjusting to the amounts in the system and the dose he is taking is wearing out as the day goes on, my wife takes meds a couple of times per day to keep things flowing right. Only 2 weeks on a med is not long enough to tell if it is working or not. Give it at least a month. Keep a journal of the times of day things change, give it to the doc when you talk to him/her next. It will help with the adjustment of meds.

GOD BLESS

RED

Hey, I'm not a doctor myself, but I know that antidepressants sometimes make Bipolar worse. I am being wened off my Wellbutrin (which I've been on for years) because of "rapid cycling." I too am a newly diagnosed patient, and am still ramping up to the optimum dose of my mood stabilizer. It's a slow process and a tough journey and I feel for both you and your husbands! Perhas he is just 1) Adjusting to the medication 2) Crashing from the medication when it wears down at night 3) the Wellbutrin is triggering the problems. I'd say, based on my own experience (and that may not be right for your husband) that perhas looking into the Wellbutrin as a catayst, could be worthwhile.

Blee the symptoms you describe sound like the typical reaction people have when taking Abilify. The frustrated can't stay still symptoms specifically. I have known at least a dozen people, bipolar friends, who tried and could not tolerate this medication, me included. I do not know anyone who takes this with good results and I firmly believe it should be taken off the market.

That said, it would be consider the mood stabilizer, an anti psychotic drug, as Wellbutrin would be the anti depressant. Have him call his doctor and ask for a different mood stabilizer.

I really don't try to give medical advice but in this one instance, with all my experiences, I just have to speak out about this drug. If you do a search on this web site you will find many threads on this topic and I have butted into most of them!
