I asked a psych before when bipolar people are depressed is there anything you can do or say to make them feel better and she said no. You just have to wait the phase out. Was the psych right when she said its nothing you can do and if not is there anything a loved one can say even if you didn't show appreciation?

I am so tired of people telling me things to do to be less depressed. Oh, and they think I am dwelling in it and I like it and it is comfortable and I do it for the attention and....Thankfully, not many have been this harsh, but it works best when like buzzingmind said, my husband has learned to tell me pretty much the same thing/ it will be better in the morning(sometimes it is) and that it is a phase and it will pass and no, I will not feel that way forever and no my life is not going to go downhill from here on out( I am 38), and on and on. The point is, don't tell a depressed person to take a walk(even though we should), stop focusing on ourselves( we wish we could), stop isolating( we know this is not good)....we know logically somewhere that all the things we are doing or not doing are adding to our depression and we just cannot change for the time. And then we slowly come out of it, most of the time, and look back and go, wow, I am so grateful to feel normal and wow, I was really depressed. Only then can we really see it for what it is. C

My husband says the same thing to me, "It will pass." He holds me and tries to comfort me as much as he can. I think your pdoc is right because it is chemical. That's at least how I've felt when I've experienced depression.
