I am having a tough time with brain fog. I am not as alert, clear, amd quick thinking and it's affecting things that really bother me. I am usually a VERY cautious driver but I have backed into a parked car, cut someone off when passing and pulled out of a parking lot just before a car was coming. These things really bother me and should. This was all in a weeks time. I am sooooo spacy. I also forgot two appointments which is not at all like me. I started Lamictal 25mg. in Dec. and have been trying to move up to 50mg. The recent car issues happened with trying to increase. It really concerns me cause I have to drive 47 miles to work. I am loosing self-confidence in my ability to drive safely. I also take Citalopram 60mg and Xanax .25mg PRN for sleep. I am seeing my dr. in a month and have tried calling already. Anyone else have this issue? All of my meds have the potential to cause problems with alertness. Maybe the compo doesn't work.
BP II since 12/11; depression/anxiety since 2/90
Celexa & Lamictal, daily; Xanax and Trazadone for anxiety and insomnia as needed.
Took Welbutrin for 10 yrs, tried Prozac, Ambien, & Abilify

[Charles Wallace possessed by IT, says to Meg]: ‘Mrs. Whatsit hates you,’ Charles Wallace said. And that is where IT made ITS fatal mistake, for as Meg said, automatically, ‘Mrs. Whatsit loves me; that’s what she told me, that she loves me,’ suddenly she knew. She knew! Love. That was what she had that IT did not have. She had Mrs. Whatsit’s love, her father’s, and her mother’s , and the real Charles Wallace’s love, and the twins’ and Aunt Beast. And she had love for them. But, how could she use it? What was she meant to do? If she could give love to IT perhaps it would shrivel up and die, for she was sure IT could not withstand love. But her in all her weakness was incapable of loving IT. But, she could love Charles Wallace. She could stand there and love Charles Wallace. Her own Charles Wallace, the real Charles Wallace. I love you. Charles Wallace, you are my darling and my dear and the light of my life and the treasure of my heart. I love you. I love you. I love you." (228-229)

I'm on Lamictal and don't have that problem, but some say that they get some of their cognitive thinking affected. I hear it goes away. 25mg since December is very little. You should have been up to probably 200mg by now. You usually get the full effects in 6-8 weeks and start feeling a difference at 100mg. I'm sorry you are having these problems. You could be right and the combo doesn't work for you. I hope your doctor gets back to you soon. That's scary driving like that when you have so far to go to work.

Thanks writer and joy, I had a thorough thyroid testing 3 years ago and all was fine. I could do that again. My menstral cycle has been off since starting the Lamictal also but I am 47 next week so could just be that time. Does Lamictal affect Thyroid functioning? I have read that it may affect menstration and to report that to your doctor and have to GYN but not the pdoc.

I'm unsure if it affects your thyroid or menstruation. I would talk to both doctors if I were you.

I've been on lamictal for years and really had no probs with my period or brain fog and 25mg is a super small dose...i have noticed im a bit more clumsy tho...hate that. I was a dancer for many years and certainly dont feel graceful anymore. Are you stressed out ? I notice when im really stressed I make little driving errors....try and see your doc asap I would say...good luck Smile

My feelings on this is that it is not the lamictal at all. You are on a very tiny dose. I don't even think you get any benefit with such a small dose. I take 300mg and don't have any side effects.

Brain fog, eh?

Explains a lot actually. I've been on 400 mgs for a while. I've always been extremely flaky so I'm sure it's that, and not the lamictal. But, really, who knows?

Lamictal 400 mg
Abilify 4 mg
Cymbalta 60 mg
lisinopril 20 mg

I'm on lamictal and I don't get brain fog. I do have a hard time remembering things. I agree, though, that you're on such a small dose, I would be surprised if it's the lamictal causing it.
~ Christine

Abilify 10 mg
Lamotrigine 200 mg
Bupropion XL 450 mg
Clorazepate 30 mg (for anxiety)
Trazodone 300 mg prn (for sleep)
Xanax .5 mg prn (for anxiety and sleep)
