I have been living with BP2 for over 10 years. I tend to cycle once a year if not more. My husband seems to think that there is a magic pill to make me "better" He says that maybe I am not on the right meds since I still have depressive swings. I have seen several Psychiatrists and they all agree that I am on the right "cocktail"

He told me last night that I should have more control over my episodes and irratability. He is right that I can't blame everything on BP, but I think he expects that I can just get up (off the couch) and get over it. I am considering leaving him unless he can or learns how to be more supportive and less judgmental. He thinks buying me a magazine and M&M's every once in a while is supportive.

How can I get him to understand? Any support/advice is appreciated. Why isn't there an emoticon for sobbing?

Is there any way you could try couples counseling/family therapy? It's really helped my husband understand bp2 and it's helped us to be able to communicate with each other better. He was dead set against it until things got very bad and I ended up in the hospital last year. Now he's going with me. I hope yours would be open to it.

Hi karnerb~

I was also going to suggest having your husband accompany you to some of your appointments. I was just diagnosed with BPII late August of this year and my hubby really doesn't believe that's what's wrong with me. We went to my psych appointment togehter and I think he got a little more insight to my diagnosis. Does he still believe it? Probably not but it's not HIS diagnosis to live with.

It sounds great that your hubby would be open to some counseling or doctor's appointments together...at least that shows he has an interest in how you feel or what you're going through.

Sue

BPII, PTSD, OCD

lamotrigine, 400 mg (generic lamictal)
paxil, 37.5 mg
trazadone, 50-200 mg to 100 mg (as needed)
nexium for acid reflux

My best therapy to date is my 80 lb. yellow labrador retriever!
My therapist has a wet nose.

*The above is just my opinion.
