I've been on Lamictal 25mg for 2 weeks now and I was to up my dose to 50mg yesterday. I did and noticed last night I didn't really feel good and woke up with a headache. After taking my meds this a.m., I noticed I had a rash on my neck and chest. I've heard about the Lamictal possible rash, so I was concerned. Called my p-doc when I got to work, she's off for a week, and another doc told me to stop the med and look for possible worse reactions. The "worse' reactions I looked up on the net look quite dangerous and I am also scared to quit suddenly because it can cause seizures which can be dangerous. I guess seizures are not as bad as death though. Smile Now my rash is all over except for my arms. No shortness of breath or anything, just don't feel good. And this med was the first med that really made me feel so much better. I'm so disappointed.

Gosh. I do hope you are ok. I too am on Lamictal 100mg. I'm worried that you have not been given any more support and advise in regards to coming off of this. As you know i'm not a doctor but Isn't it 25mg a week we should go down by? I'd imagine the risk of seizure to not be as great at this dose?I'm sorry I you are going through this and I can't give advise but I'm thinking of you. Please let us know. Don't think twice about A+E is symptoms persist or linger.

I am so sorry this happened to you Dagny! I had the same exact reaction to Lamictal and like you, the drug worked so well for me! I was really disappointed (still am actually as it has been hard to find a med that worked as well). I think my pdoc at the time had me stop the Lamictal immediately once I got the rash - it shows that you are allergic to it, rather than it being a "side effect". So worse things could happen if you continued on it. I hope you find a better med very soon! You are in my thoughts and keep us updated on your progress!

Hugs!

Oh no! I am on 25mg of lamictal as well and will be on 100mg next month. I have hypothyroidism and lamictal is the best choice. Oh man, I am praying I don't get that rash.

[Charles Wallace possessed by IT, says to Meg]: ‘Mrs. Whatsit hates you,’ Charles Wallace said. And that is where IT made ITS fatal mistake, for as Meg said, automatically, ‘Mrs. Whatsit loves me; that’s what she told me, that she loves me,’ suddenly she knew. She knew! Love. That was what she had that IT did not have. She had Mrs. Whatsit’s love, her father’s, and her mother’s , and the real Charles Wallace’s love, and the twins’ and Aunt Beast. And she had love for them. But, how could she use it? What was she meant to do? If she could give love to IT perhaps it would shrivel up and die, for she was sure IT could not withstand love. But her in all her weakness was incapable of loving IT. But, she could love Charles Wallace. She could stand there and love Charles Wallace. Her own Charles Wallace, the real Charles Wallace. I love you. Charles Wallace, you are my darling and my dear and the light of my life and the treasure of my heart. I love you. I love you. I love you." (228-229)

I went to the ER after posting this, and they took me right back, MD saw me immediately and she says I was just allergic to it that it does not look like the serious rash. She gave me Predisone, Zyrtec, and Zantac and also gave me a prescription for all of it. She told me the meds would make me sleepy, so no more driving today, go home, and don't work today or tomorrow. (think I will work tomorrow though). I got a co-worker to drive me home. sigh....just can't do these meds well. I've had so many reactions and side effects from most of them and the ones that don't do this, don't work for me.

Well, I decided to go to work today anyway since I have no more sick time left. I don'tfeel bad at all, but I am COVERED with this horrible rash all over my body. It's worse than yesterday. I've got to go get my meds from the pharmacy (had no way to get them yesterday since I couldn't drive) so maybe then it will start to get better. Getting off Lamictal all of a sudden, even though it's a low dose, scares me.

My question is if you are allergic to the med, then why didn't she suggest that you get off it? Yes, prednisone will help the rash go away, but won't it come back when you're off it?
