So, due to the massive amounts of snow we got in Western North Carolina my flight was canceled and the airline called to inform me that they are booked through the next couple of days, but I could drive through the mountains (in snow covered roads mind you) to an airport 2 hours away...I opted to not risk my or my boyfriend's life in this trip.

Due to the cancellations I decided to cancel my trip all together, mail the presents and move with my boyfriend this coming week. I am going to plan a trip up there in January. I am a bit afraid of how that conversation is going to go with my family because they will not understand why I can't drive to the other airport or why I want to move and come down next month.

At least I have a supportive and optimistic boyfriend who will be here when I make the phone call.

Glad you opted out on the drive. Unless you got chains on your tires and have 4 wheel drive I would have choose the same. Mountain roads can be very dangerous in the winter even for those that know them.

Hope the rest of your Christmas was good.

peace & hugs

I hope your phone call to your family went ok. You had every intention of going it's not like you can control the weather! If your family doesn't understand then they have some serious issues that i hope they can work out before January. Hopefully by then they can figure out who will pick you up at the airport Smile

I am a bit relieved for you that this family stress has been averted for a bit. Good luck with your move, that is very exciting!

My phone call with my family went surprisingly well their understanding shocked me, but perhaps that is because they may have watched the news and saw the snow...also I talked to my mom who grew up in the mountains and knows what snow here does to the roads. I feel much better now that I know what is going on and that they are okay with it all.

I'm so glad your call to your family went so well. I'm glad they understood and didn't expect you to drive in the snow to the other airport. That would have possibly been dangerous. Now you can concentrate on the move and get settled in and plan your trip in January. This may have worked out for the best. They say everything happens for a reason. This is a weight off of your chest and you can probably relax a bit now.

Sometimes people surprise us at how they react, we assume the worst. Other times we think it will be no big deal and they get bent out of shape. I did not drive much since the rain has been dangerous, flooding, flash floods. Forcing yourself to do what is not right for you is not a good idea since only you can look out for yourself. In the long run family will be glad we take care of ourselves.
