Has anyone ever taken Symbyax?? The reason I ask is I have tried many antidepressants w/o success and apparently this antidepressant is the only one that is FDA approved for use in bipolar disorder. If anyone has tried this med, does it cause weight gain? That's my biggest concern. I'm also due to see my psychdoc next week so I'm trying to weigh some potential options in preparation for the visit.

Symbyax is a combination of Zyprexia (anti-psychotic, huge weight gain) and Fluoxetine (anti depressant).

Thanks for the response. Huge weight gain is definitely not my thing, I cannot afford it.

I was on it for a while... way to expensive for me. What makes it so pricey is the Zyprexa. There's no generic of it. What I've started doing (and it was my pdoc's idea) is that I have the script for the anti depressant and then she just gives me samples of the Zyprexa that she has in the office.

Saves me about.... $60 a month.

Oooh... shiny!

LadyRahl,

Did it help? Did you gain any weight?
