I will be going to see my psych next week and need to know what anti dep. anyone might recommend.I am taking depakote and Prozac now. The dep seems to keep me stable enough but the depression is killing me. I have heard that if you take a med and then stop and go back on it later, that it may not be as effective. Is this true? I had been on prozac before with positive results, now nothing. On the down side,I have no energy, no ambition, no nothing. I feel like a vegetable. On the up side, I can think before I speak, rationalize before I react, and not take everything so personally. Any suggestions?

Mark

There is a theory called 'Prozac poop out' that claims anti depressant meds can be effective once and later become ineffective. It can happen while you are continuously taking an AD or when you stop and then restart the same med.

I'm not a fan of prozac and there are so many more choices out there you may find the second and third generation SSRIs work better.

wellbutrion works for me. it is one of the antidepressiants that is less likely to cause mania. I take 300mg a day. I have heard that restarting drugs could make them less effective. However I added Topamax back to my mix and it seems to help so I am up in the air on that one. Good luck.
