Hey April! I'm McKenzi. I'm 14 and I was recently diagnosed with bipolar and some other disorders. I've had symptoms bipolar since I was about 11. I was just wondering if you have any tips of ideas on ways to cope with my anger when I feel like I'm about to have an out break ? My outbreaks a very much to the extreme. I black out and have excessive strength or so it seems. It's not just scary for the people that have to see it but also for me. I normally don't remember much after I come back to ...

Hi. I'm McKenzi. I'm 14 and I was diagnosed with bipolar recently. It's been some what scary for me so far. I know every individual is different, but I was just wondering if any of you others seem excessively stronger or black out when you go into a bad anger out break?

such as, one of my worst out breaks, a couple months ago, I flipped out on my mom. I threw 2 kitchen chairs (fairly sturdy metal chairs) across my kitchen and into my living room. It hit the sliding glass door and cracked i...

Ray, Let me start by saying I myself am also bipolar and in a relationship (11-24-12) so I somewhat know the situation you're in. One of the basic things is learning your triggers, a therapist could help you out with this. A trigger is just something that some enables (triggers) the anger and mood swings. Don't get to worked up about it yet, you were just recently diagnosed so the doctors are still trying to get a grasp on how medicines affect you and which one would be best for you. Once you'r...

Hi cassie, my 16- yrs-old son got diagnosed with bi-polar 6 months ago. We always knew he had it but no one would help us out. It got so bad he started using drugs and got sent to a treatment place and they finally helped him. He comes home this august. Now that they got him on the right meds he can concentrate in school and is better with coping with daily life. I have clinical depression so me and my son help each other and are open with each now. One big thing you dont want to do is shut down...

SelfHarmer19, How long hainformationve you been dating your boyfriend? I think it is a very personal issue. It is not everyone's business. If you did decide and tell him and he can't handle it than for sure you will have to move on. That's why I wouldn't tell him right off the bat. Wait until you get to know him. Many people do it too soon. Sometimes people end up breaking up anyway and then they have personal information about you that they can tell other people. Plus, if you two have s...

Disciplining our son is THE biggest struggle we live with. There are so many holes in our walls right now...my 14 year old son has tried to choke me, has hit me and his stepfather and is highly irrational when he gets aggressive. He is leveling out but only after 2 hospitalizations and a few med changes. We believe he has been in a dysphoric manic/hypomanic phase...very dangerous.

As a result of his recent history of intense rages, he knows we will call the police and/or hospitalize him if h...

Who is she to say that you're not confident? Has she given you any reasons as to why she thinks you're not confident? Seems to me like she's treating you poorly, maybe to make herself feel better? If she keeps saying that you're not confident enough, but doesn't give any reason why, don't push it. Try to meet someone who'll put in the effort....

Well, the way I see it (and I hate to sound cliche) she wants you to see how much pain she's in. It's not exactly for attention, but I should think that if you don't acknowledge it as much it should happen less frequently. Try instead of pouring all your energy into installing morals she most likely already has, try letting her know (covertly) that you're there for her. For instance, the next time you catch her doing that, instead of punishing her, comfort her....

Hey Victoria! Why not focus on the fact that you got the diagnosis young? You didn't have to wait until you were an adult, in your thirties, or beyond? You know what it is, and you can control it and since you were diagnosed young, you have time to find the right meds.

I was diagnosed at 17, and I think that is a great thing.

Focus on the positive: You have a beautiful profile picture and you have the summer to prepare for high school. You can work with a therapist to prepare, and the peop...

I think that, for now, you may want to keep the guns someplace he can't access them. Would a friend be able to hide the guns anonymously? I know this is a touchy issue for many. I mention this for your safety, as I would hate for him to access the guns and use them to hurt you in an episode.

I know this is a touchy issue though.

I also know that people have to want to get help. I dated someone once who refused to get help and said it was simply me putting my illness...

Yes that's exactly it! My mind wants to stay awake but my body is like NO LET ME REST. It's like a war between body and mind. I can usually stay awake for days at a time while in a manic episode so that's why I'm doubting whether this is mania or mixed or hypomanic....
