I haev seen a couple of old posts about this stuff but has anyone out there been on it long enough to say whether or not any of the side effects eased up over time, particularly the tired/high feeling and the appetite changes?

Hi, dstar, welcome, I've taken the Remeron for over a year, used it as a sleeping pill along with a antidepressant, didn't have any appetite changes, what kind are you experiencing ? when are you taking the remeron? anyway you could take it at night? that way you sleep through the worst of the tiredness? biggest thing is to talk with your doctor about how you are feeling.

Hi carmen, thanks for your reply. I actually just started the Remeron this week and my pdoc warned me that it was known to be sedating and that I should take it at bedtime, which I have done but it has kicked my tail and I am only taking 7.5 mg right now and I am supposed to up it tomorrow night which kind of scrares me considering how much effect it has had already and I am really groggy and out of it for the better part of the day after I wake up. I also noticed that the first morning after I took it that I woke up starving and haven't been able to get rid of that feeling for more than a couple of hours at a time since. I now that with the SSRIs tehy tell you that the side effects should at least lessen over time but the SSRIs have not been of any real benefit to me and I am also already on Wellbutrin and lamictal as well. I am hoping that these side effects are expected

silly question but why did your doctor prescribe the remeron in addition to the Wellbutrin? both are antidepressants. Call your pdoc and see if you can't put off the increase till your body has had a chance to become accustom to it in the first place, I started at a low dose of it, and it didn't get increased till I needed one.. I ended up at 45mg, but that was over the course of like two years. I was on antidepressants alone at that time, now I am antidepressant free, unless you count the fact that the lamictal has antidepressant properties..

I had been going through a pretty bad depressive phase and since the Wellbutrin has caused sleep problems in the past he did not want to incraese the dosage. We have already tried Lexapro and Luvox, both of which I was not tolerating and I have previously been on Zoloft, Effexor, Paxil, all of which (except Zoloft) sent me towards either a manic or hypomanic episode and Zoloft just made me miserable all of the time. Since the SSRIs tend to send me too far in the otehr direction he thought that we may want to try something wasn't as likely to do so. The initail dosage was intended to be 15 mg but he suggested that I shoudl half the pills for 2 to 4 days. I go back at the beginning of the month unless I feel the need to go back sooner. We had talked about just increasing the Lamictal but came to the conclusion that something stronger was needed at the moment, at least temporarily. If a new antidepreesant worked well enough then we would look in to eliminating the Wellbutrin but the Wellbutrin/Lamictal combo has worked quite well up until lately.
