Pdoc just added Klonopin to my mix because I, despite trying many combination, am still having a lot of sleep difficulties. It usually escallates to mania, it is probably my quickest trigger.

I really have no experience with this class of drugs, I had valium once before dental surgery, but I can't say I remember it (thank god).

Just like to hear input on what to expect.

The best comparison I can muster is that it's just like a shot of Jack Daniel's. It calms you down. You just don't get that satisfying feeling of slamming a freshly emptied shot glass on the bar counter or the warmth if the liquid making it's way down your chest.

I hear Klonopin is the least addictive of anxiety meds. I've taken it on and off for a couple of years. My last anxiety attack was unbelievable. My blood pressure was high, I couldn't breathe, hands shaking, thoughts racing. I took 1mg Klonopin and 20 minutes later I felt so much better. Was able to finish the day at work. Sometimes Klonopin makes me tearful.

Klonipin is very helpful to sleep. It is also a drug my pdoc allows for those "tough" days (like today, Mothers Day). I had to go up on my meds today to be able to handle the holiday. Klonipin has been a good med in my experience, and I hope it helps you.

I have been on Klonopin for 11 years I cant function without it...It helps with my anxiety (I maybe be able to make a trip to the mall for a hour or so after taking klonopin) and it does help with sleep. It can be addicative if abused but just taking your meds I would not worry about it, I take 4 i mg tabs a day and it helps. I shoud note that I have agoraphobia to.

yay! Shawna, you rock. I can't focus without my ritalin (only take the prescribed amount) but with or without the ritalin I have anxiety almost daily...that feeling you get when you're pulled over by the cops - or when you have terrible turbulence and you drop a couple hundred feet on a 747...I take 1mg and it lasts about 4 hours. I'm going to my pdoc in a couple weeks and I'm not sure how to tell him that I need the klonopin daily too. I used to refuse any meds...now I take 5 different ones every day. But I'm starting to feel better...do you ever wonder if this will reduce your long-term life expectancy (or lengthen it)?? There has got to be some sort of side effect from taking so many for so long...

wow, clevergirl-you describe that anxiety feeling very well. i have to have my klonopin. i had a horrible problem with addiction to valium/xanax, but i've done really well with the klonopin. my job requires me to speak in public, and without the klonopin, i'd be unable to work.

and yes. i often wonder if one day they'll tell us that all these meds cause some horrible disease or shorten life expectancy. they're always so excited when they come up with a new one, but new means not studied as much as the old ones. but they have fewer side effects, say the docs. but how do you know for sure what it's all doing inside me when i'm taking 5 different meds multiple times during the day? it's weird and a little scary, but i suppose it's the price i pay for being this stable right now. i wouldn't give up my meds no matter what...

right on, Zinnia! I'm actually, in some cases, prone to asking for the oldest (i.e. Ritalin) medicine first. I've taken enough meds because this 'thing' I have is 25 years old.

I think the only good part about getting older (and don't EVEN get me started about getting older...) is that you really start to know 'who you are'.

You'ved watched yourself screw up, make ridiculous decisions and make insane trouble for yourself. But, sometimes with AMAZING results. Those bold, ballsy decisions - the ones that when you tell the story from beginning, middle to end - make people remark with admiration, amazement, congratulations. It's cool.

Medicine is cool more, though.

i know exactly what you mean. when i turned 40 this year, i was so excited. i was so stupid in my teens and twenties. spent my 30's giving to everyone but me. i figure 40 has to be my decade. my nurse practitioner says that she doesn't believe women actually can "come in to their own" until their 40's.

so here's to all the stupidity that taught us to be the smart, interesting, beautiful women we are today. like my friend told me, "we're not damaged. we're tempered, like a knife blade".

you go girl

peace.
