Has anyone every experienced allergy medicines (Claritin) sending the BP into a manic phase? I got my hubby some Claritin for his allergies and when I got home last night he was in a manic state. He actually told me he felt himself going up (?). He left and did not return until 3 am and of course had been drinking.

Is there an allergy med he can take that will not effect him like this?

Benadryl sends me up the walls...I have to take it when I have hives...but, warn everyone...I am taking a benadryl....they clear the room...take to the hills. It makes me irritable. I think good idea is to call PDOC if he is on meds. Drinking and Claritin might not be a good mix...that may be the problem too...hugs, Norma

Jola, a person who is on bipolar medications especially should never take a over the counter medication without consulting with their doctor, I want to quit smoking and got some of the nicoderm gum, checked out the patient pamphlet in it and found out because of the diabetes and bipolar, I can't use it..

A lot of the allergy meds have things in them that will amp a person up, and in a bipolar can send them manic, if you can get the clariden out of the house, and him to his doctors.
