Hi everyone

I've been depressed lately and my doc has decided to start me on Cymbalta in about a week or so instead of Celexa that I'm on now.

What are others experiences with Cymbalta?

Thanks

amy

Wish I had an answer for you, my son takes Prozac and Zyprexa and it works perfectly for him...I have taken Lithium, Thorazine, Mellaril, and Stelazine....a long time ago....I just wanted really to say Hi...Norma

Awww thanks Norma!! HI!! Hope you are doing well.

I take Lithium now which is helpful, and I used to take Stelazine a ways back. I took Prozac years ago and Zyprexa years ago too. Just a warning on Zyprexa, I know of someone who gained a lot of weight from Zyprexa developed Type 2 Diabetes and then went into a diabetic coma. I would be really careful with Zyprexa cause it can cause weight gain and problems can develop from weight gain too.

thanks for saying hi!

amy

Glad you told me about the Zyprexa, I read the label on it so much i could almost recite it by heart. Son gets a lot of exercise, he has gained a little weight, but, he lost a bit when he was manic in Nov.

His doctor is trying to reduce the dosage gradually, went from 10 mg to 5 mg. thanks, Hope you are doing well...

Hi seabiscuit,

I'm starting symbalta thursday more than likely. I have a lot of pain, so that is the one thing I know about it. It may help with PAIN!

5-28-08 This is the 3rd day at 30mg and so far I just notice some reduction in pain and I have chronic pain so even if that is the only reason that it lifts my mood, for that I am grateful.

Hi Seabiscuit - Sorry - I don't have any PERSONAL experience with Cymbalta, but a very close friend of mine has been taking it for about 3 months now. She reports that her depression still "lingers" at times, but is much less severe. She also told me that the time frame of the depression has been cut by 2/3. I think that sounds pretty positive! By the way, she was taking Celexa prior to starting Cymbalta, and hated it..... Hope you're feeling better real soon!!!!!

I LOVED Cymbalta. It totally cleared my depression and helped my attitude. I was still manic though, and my then boyfriend recently stated it didn't help with my hypomania at all... eh, I felt great on it but I was also on Neurontin and Xanax and then later off of Neurontin and onto Lithium in combo with Cymbalta. I hated Lithium (can't do the frequent blood thing). Anyway, point is, Cymbalta, I thought, worked for me.

Lobo and I were just discussing lamictal and how it has totally cleared our depression with no side effects. I've been depression free for six months now. Of course everyone is different and should be followed by a doctor and titrated accordingly but I think it's a miracle cure. It's been around about 15 years and is an anti-seizure med. It's a little on the pricey side but well worth it and no weight gain and no depression yeh!!!
