This is a welcomed post for me. My husband finally started meds. The dr put him on 10mg of Lexapro & 40 mg of geodon. I thought they sounded like low doses but the dr wants to see how he reacts to the meds. The past 2 days he seems to have slept more, but I could just be "watching the pot" so to speak.

Anyway, if anyone knows anything on these 2 meds, let me know. Thanks!

Has your husband been diagnosed with depression or bipolar? From everything I've read, Lexapro can trigger extreme manic episodes in people with bipolar I, and it certainly had that affect on me, I was out of control during the period I was on Lexapro. Just be sure to monitor him, because this doesn't happen to everyone, and in my case it took others pointing it out to me for me to realize what was going on.

I have never heard of Geodon but would be interested to hear more about it.

My husband is on the same 2 meds. He sleeps a lot too. I am still not sure they are the right ones for him as he is pretty low-functioning. He has been on both for about 7 months. The Geodon in higher doses brought on auditory hallucinations. He has a new Dr. who is working to get him on something different in the next few weeks. It's a big ol' tossed salad of meds!

My wife has been on Lexapro for 4 weeks now. I have not seen any improvment. They just uped her from 10mg to 20mg today. She is sleeping better with the med. But that is the only thing I have seen it do for her so far. They say it takes awhile for the meds to start working. So I don't know. I pray this does something soon. She is just shutting me out more and more each day.

I take Geodon - 80mg at night and 40mg throughout the day if I need it for anxiety. It has been great for me. A life saver!! Really has helped with my racing thoughts but it does make you sleep. I need that at night anyway so it's the perfect drug for me. I hope he gets some relief. It typically takes a while for a drug to work so don't give up too soon.

Good luck to you!

I've been taking Lexapro only (I was dx with unipolar depression until recently), and I can say that of the SSRIs I've taken, Lexapro has worked great for the depression and hasn't had some of the more unpleasant side effects of other antidepressants. It didn't make me sleepy ... but then, I haven't been taking it with a mood stabilizer, either.

My wife took geodon right after having our first child. It worked fast, but she didn't want to keep taking it as it made her sleepy. I prefer it when she's sleepy to be honest.

I am on both Lexapro and Geodon. I have been taking both of these on and off since 2002. Steadily for the past two years. Just recently I went back to my first pdoc and when going over the meds he did say that the Lexapro can trigger manic episodes and if given in high doses will cause mixed episodes, which I was having. He lowered my dose of the lexapro and raised the geodon and that has worked nicely. I have noticed that in my case that the geodon has helped extremely with the angry outburst that I have. Yes, the geodon will make you sleepy but I would much rather feel tired than be mad at the world at the snap of a finger.
