I have bipolar 2 and my pdoc just started me on Seroquel because I was having trouble with tremors from Depakote and Geodon and I wasn't stable anyway. Well last night was an interesting experience. It took me awhile to fall asleep even though I was expecting to be knocked out based on what I've read about this drug, and I woke up a couple of times, though I went right back to sleep. Today though I just feel super hungover. My stomach is upset/I have no appetite, I didn't get out of bed for good until about 1:30pm, and I feel like I could go back to sleep right now. Is this normal? My pdoc started me at 100mg and wants me to increase to 200mg in a week. I'm hoping that I can function earlier in the day because I'm starting my job as a camp counselor this week and I'm gonna need to be up early in the morning (around 6am). Anyone have experiences with Seroquel? I'm really hoping that it works because I've tried a lot...Lamictal, Zyprexa Depakote and Geodon. And if it doesn't work out, I don't know what I'll do...I'll probably ask to go back to Zyprexa because I absolutely loved the way it worked, I just didn't love the weight gain.

My girlfriend is on Seroquel, 750mg at night and 250mg in the morning. It certainly helps her sleep, but she will have a hard time getting out of bed. She usually takes the night dose about 8pm or so and by 11 its got her asleep. This is her second time with this drug and it did take a couple of weeks for her to get used to the last time. I would suggest that you discuss this with your doctor.
If it is worth having, it is worth fighting for.

I take this medication and I'm on 150 mg at night, it does seem to help. She is on a very high dosage WOW! -- I find I have a hard time getting up in the morning or as one person said, it looked like I was stoned in the mornings. I'm sorry but I need an hour to wake up LOL

I just started taking this medication as well. I just started yesterday because I couldn't sleep. It worked well but I feel hungover just like you said because of it. Maybe it might go away once we get use to it.

I'm an Advocate

Be careful is all I can say. Seroquel has been described by one bipolar as "the black hole." The dosages mentioned would flatten me out completely. I took 300 mg one time when I was living in abandoned barracks (I had to sleep...I was out of it), and I put my bicycle in the hallway so I wouldn't hurt myself any further.

It is an anti-psychotic, it is developed by Astra-Zeneca, and it has a side effect profile that includes tardive's dyskinesia and other stuff.

If it works for you, great, but it did not for me.

Diagosed with bipolar in 1985, I'm learning to deal with it better since finding my "family" at Alcoholics Anonymous, and as of 1/3/2013, I will have one year of sobriety and more clarity than I've ever experienced in my lifetime.

It's not the first anti-psychotic that I've been put on...I've been on Zyprexa and Geodon as well. I loved Zyprexa but it made me gain a lot of weight so I went off it.

I think that over time the daytime drowsiness will go away with Seroquel instant release. If not, consider Seroquel XR. I take that at night and am just fine during the day. Seroquel XR is not available in generic though.
Bipolar 1, Simple Partial Seizures, and migraines

Psychiatric meds:

Lithium ER (900 mg)*Tegretol XR (1400 mg)*Lamictal (100 mg)*Geodon (160 mg)*Navane (5 mg)*Seroquel XR (100 mg)*Klonopin (.5 mg)

Ativan 1 mg "as needed" (I rarely take it.)*Seroquel regular 50 mg "as needed" (Only if I'm getting elevated.)

Other meds:

Propranolol (40 mg)*Levothyroxine (150 mcg)

My mix is side effect friendly for me.

I take 400mg of Seroquel XR at night. It does not make me sleepy during the day. I guess everyone is different. Good Luck!
