We've been on depakote and zoloft for 3 months and somewhat stable until last week. My daughter's mixed moods are back, doc increased her depakote dosage, now she's worse. She also has side effects from depakote I.e. involuntary muscle movement and back pain. She hasn't slept well since starting depakote and has lost 7 lbs. I don't know what to do next. Today, doc said to increase Zoloft. I'm uncomfortable with that. I'm worried that will make her worse. Where do I go from here?

The side effects don't sound good. I would call the psychiatrist and let him know what is going on and maybe change it. I'm unsure if the Zoloft increase will make her worse. It could cause mania, but with a lot of people it doesn't if there is a mood stabilizer. The involuntary movements though concern me. I'd call that doctor back and say something has to be done. That she is getting worse, not better. They are there to help, so bug him all you have to. I hope you get some answers and that something gets done. If not, then I would change psychiatrists. Hang in there. We're here for you. Let us know what he says.
