Anyone here from Ontario? I live in the lower part of northern ontario and am looking for suggestions on a phsychiatrist to be referred to. I'm willing to travel anywhere between Sudbury/newmarket and muskoka area.

I am between pdocs and would like to find one that is extremely gentle and understanding.

I'm sorry, I'm from the U.S. There are some here that are from Canada though. I hope you find a great psychiatrist!

hi porch 52...

i've just started seeing a pdoc who's new to the region...

Dr. James Karagianis in Port Severn on Georgian Bay. not sure if he's close enough for you... it's about an 80 minute drive from my house, but as we know, this can count as "close" in the north when it comes to specialists.

i've only seen him 3 times, but so far he seems good. had to go thru the referral dance of course, but sine he's recently moved here from Newfoundland, he may still be taking new patients...

good luck....

Bipolar 2 with a shot of Aspergers and a touch of Agoraphobia/Citalopram, Lithium and Dextroampheta Sulfate, Caffeine, etc...

if what i say makes sense to you, you might want to bear in mind that i'm mentally ill.

I looked into his website, and he seems a little scary to me. I already have a doctor who's big on getting out of your comfort skin and just dealing with things...and it's not working for me. I think right now I need someone to gently guide me in that area, instead of pushing too hard.

I have an apt with my fam doc on thursday, so I will see if she has anyway of referring me somewhere where they have strong mental health care...I was actually thinking Penetang might, and it's not too far of a drive for me.

As Dr. James Karagianis' office assistant, I can assure you, porch52, that he is not remotely scary. Unfortunately, he now has quite a long waiting list, so another doctor may be able to see you more quickly. Best of luck.

My Psychiatrist is Dr. Mostafa Showraki he has two offices one in Scarborough and one in Richmond Hill. The Richmond Hill one is somewhat close to Newmarket but I think his very effective because he actually specializes in Mood Disorders.
