Since I am switching to seroquel, I have had to taper off Geodon. I started at 120mg and I am now down to 40mg. I have been tapering 20mg every 2 weeks and I have not really noticed any real difference with each step down. I am however worried about when I make the jump to 0mg.

Has anyone out there had experience with coming off of Geodon?

I would really appreciate any responses.

My daughter was taking 60mg morning and night and when we changed meds last week she just took a 40mg at night for 2 days. It was no problem for her Smile

I was on a lower dose, at one time 60 mgs then 40 mgs, and i was told by my pdoc to stop right away, i should have reduced down to 20 mgs for a month but i did not. I adjusted alright after some withdrawl, was taking Geodon for 4 months. You are going to be replacing Geodon with Seroquel so since there's another med involved when you finally stop Geodon i feel you probably will do fine, this is my opinion.

Thanks for the 2 responses. I am still holding at 20mgs. In a few days I will use water titration to go down to 10 mgs. I really want to do everything I can to minimalize the withdrawal. Over the spring and summer I tapered off of Klonopin. That was some horrible withdrawal. I don't want to experience anything like that again in my life.

Well I have cut to 10mgs using water titration and I have had no W/D symptoms. In 2 days I make the jump down to 0. I will update when I am completely off.

I have been completely off of Geodon for 3 days now and I am totally fine. If you are someone who needs to come off of Geodon, my advice would be take it slow and you should have no problems. My taper schedule from above worked out fine. I know I was really scared to come off it, but it has not been bad at all.

This is my 2nd time on Geodon the first time I had to taper from about 60mg. I didnt taper I stopped completely with no side effects. My pdoc told me this medicine hardly ever has side effects to coming off.
