 Has anyone heard of "Epival" (not sure I spelled it correctly?) as a treatment for bipolar?

My bf has been diagnosed with mixed mania and takes Epival every day. Is anyone else taking Epival? Is there an alternate solution?

 Epival is the equivilant of Depakote (Valproic Acid)? I am not sure but I believe it is the canadian form of Depakote.
