Is it true or has anyone heard that effexor xr, depakote and bipolar are a NO NO?

Im having a problem with mood stability so me and hubby talked and decided (cuz we heard from counselor that the effexor can push me into mania faster than healthy leaving me on bigger roller coaster than im already on Tongue ) so I have stopped taking effexor this week.

Does this sound right to anyone?

I know a lot of us take antidepressants here. I have heard on thier own they are really bad for Bipolar because they can push you into a mania or hypomania, but mixed with something for mood stabilization they help a great deal. I take wellburin with Geodon and they both seem to help me a ton. I would definately check with a pdoc before stopping any med.

I know some experts are against antidepressants for bipolar, however when taken with adequate mood stabilizers they do help wih depression. Because my main symptom is severe depression, I take Effexor 75 mg. We are currently in the process of switching me to prozac bc I thik effexor was raising my cholesterol.
