Hey folks. I'm going to start some conversation on medications, by name, to see how we as a community of mental health consumers feel about our medication experiences. Try to keep your comments brief, unless you need to rant! I have the feeling that our doctors don't have any system to document patient's experiences, especially the bad ones, and I want to see if this could be turned into some kind of raw data, maybe?

Use terms like good, great, bad, horrible or no results and explain why you feel this way.

I will start with the meds I have experience with, feel free to start your own threads using the drug name as the topic, and start this in the medicine and treatments forum in the BP community.

Thanks!

D

My experience was very bad.

Side effects started within three days and included racing heart, agitation, and mood changes. dx and symptoms quickly disappeared.

I have seen these same reactions in many of my bipolar friends and I know of no one who has benefited from taking this med.

I started suffering the worst anxiety I have ever felt shortly after starting this med. I was crawling out of my skin. I immediately told my doctor who said this wasn't an uncommon side effect. He took me off it and when it left my bloodstream relief came. Obviously I can't comment on it's effectiveness.

Hey you all need to do a search on Gifted Developmental center it's in Colorado. I'm amazed to see that so many people are being missed diagnosed with bipolar or are they? This seems to run in families. They were thinking that my 15 yr is bi polar and they have dummied her up with geodon, prozac, Topamax and she got progressly worst. Our whole family is in therapy and are making changes. My father was a alcholic. My Husband grandfather & My mothers father was also. So I think we need to get some generational healing going on here! Our whole family needs to make changes In all this my therapist suggested that i might be ADD and should go see someone about getting on Adderall RX and Pexeva to deal with the crisis with our daughter. Guess what it has changed my life and now they are saying I might be bipolar too. What I do know is that my daughter is extremely smart and always has been until now her self esteem and crashed and depression set in. That's when we took her to a (Legal Drug Dealer) MD that im my oppinion was nothing but a pusher and he screwed her up royally. She went from being the very creative and brillant child to suicidal. So now we found a new Dr.that is detoxing her off all this stuff and they might try to put her on the same as me! Now if that isn't enmeshment!

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add to it. I was started on Geodon for mixed episodes and so far its worked pretty well, it seems to level me out. I wouldnt want to stay on it long term but I think its ok for the time being. FYI, a good site for meds information is www.crazymeds.org. Lots of information delivered in an easy to read format.
