Why wear a ribbon?

"I proudly wear this ribbon in support of my wife and son who both have bipolar." (Nightbreed)

MDJunction to me

"In the 3 months I have been with MDJunction I have developed a sense of calmness. I now friends who do not judge me because I have been a mental mess at times. It is such a good feeling to have friends I can tell my deepest thoughts and always get back to me with their support. I have never seen a therapist for long periods of time. Right or wrong, this is the best therapy possible for me. Thanks Roy for getting this up and running and making such a difference in my life. Sara" (saralaurie)

Taco: I think the ads are how the website makes money to support itself. There are all sorts of ones that come up; just ignore them

Like Jritchie is experiencing, I didn't respond to Lexapro until I was at 30mg. I was on that dose (with no depression crashes) for almost a year before I "believed" it was really working. Was terrified I was going to crash, but I never did. Am on Lithium and that is keeping the mania in check. We are all so different!......it is such a big relief to finally feel some stability.....and feel that it may stay......
Let me introduce myself. I'm Linda....aka Zoe.

I remember all the years of going to the Dr. & being treated specifically just for depression. They were throwing anti-depressants at me. I would run to the pharmacy, get the script filled. I was SO excited to find my relief. I thought I found my CURE!!!After just days of just taking the pills I thought I was feeling tons better. And then after those weeks were up that you were actually supposed to start feeling the effects of the med I was back to feeling miserable???It's crazy what tricks your brain can play on you!!

Zoe!I feel the same way!!I haven't felt this stable & calm in years. It's almost scarey!

Zinnia- Thanks for posting this!

Hey Taco...there are advertisements on some of the posts. You might ask the administrator about why they are there. I think it is because they sell ads just like a newspaper does to cover the costs of bringing you the news.

Zinnia...LOL glad you shared this "secret". Thirty years ago when I started on meds they did the opposite...dosed up until you were zombie stage and then, gradually weaned you down to the dosage. I think the gradually increasing dosage way is better...LOL i spent a year staring at the walls when i was first on meds...Mellaril, Throazine, and Stelazine..WHOA MOMMA!!! Now, that was some dosages!!!

LOL LOL

norma-that must have been horrible. they kept me pretty doped up during my last hospital stay, but i've read about the drugs you're mentioning and they are crazy strong! if i would have been there, i swear i would have busted you out of there.

i know our bodies and minds have to get used to these drugs gradually. i understand that. i just never knew that almost all of the drugs are started at a dose that's no more effective than a sugar pill and sometimes kept at that level for weeks! it's 2 weeks at that level for the lamictal starter pack. i love my pdoc and he tells me everything. part of what i'm asking for when i go to the doctor is to be an active participant in my treatment. i've been down the road where i had anti-depressants thrown at me for years without helping and without anyone telling me anything about them. i won't ever let that happen again.

WE ALL HAVE TO ASK A TON OF QUESTIONS WHEN WE SEE OUR PDOC'S. IF WE DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE DOING IT, THEN WE NEED TO GET A NEW PDOC!

love and peace to all.

thanks Z...i can see you coming in there and cutting me out of the restraints they used to use...yes folks they actually did that, there was none of the nice, patient's rights people saying you can refuse any medicines. LOL nope...if you refused you got a shot in the ass and about five minutes later you were not sure if you were a person or a cloud...just floating away....LOL LOL sometimes, i can't believe i survived that crap. But, I AM STILL HERE!!!! AND I AM ALIVE...

LOL LOL

Things today are a lot better, believe me. I have been through 35 years of treatment for bipolar disorder and the meds, medical professionals, are a lot better. They are much more responsive to listening and talking to us. It is not perfect, and i am sure in another 35 yrs things will be even better.

I think it is helpful to write down questions before going to the doctor...it so rushed when you see the doctor. And i hate it when leaving i remember questions that i should have asked.

I never knew that Z. I always wondered why I never felt any different when they gave me something new. I need to ask you guys something. Do you think it's ok for a doc to just take you straight off of seroquel without weaning you first. I know I'm kinda obsessing over this, but I just don't feel right since she took me off so fast. Please let me know what you think k? I heart your faces! with all my heart, Jeanne

Heart your face too, Jeanne. Tell your doctor that you have concerns about the abrupt ceasing of the medication. Just make a phone call, so you can be reassured.
