there was a link about this a few days ago. i can't remember what it's called though. If you can find it it might be good. personally, when i went on meds - more than you are but i take the same dose of seroquel - i didn't think i put on weight. but when i went for my physical in june i was 225 and i'm normally 195-200. of course, my doc wants me to lose weight realizing it would be hard. but she referred to a nutritionist which really and i increased exercise. i was already active but i developed a better routine.

so all this to say i dropped 20 lbs but it's something to constantly monitor. as my doc said, it's easy to gain but ...

to answer your question, i suppose for me my wieght did level out. i know people for whom that happened after gaining 70 or 80 lbs. i think their are different meds, but i wouldn't know which.

hope this helps, terry

Welcome Connie. I am obsessive about gaining weight so my pdoc knows better than to put me on a med that will make me do so. I am presently on Tegretol, Prozac and Xanax--all of which are weight neutral.

Talk with your pdoc. He or she can give you the information you need to make decisions you can live with.

Connie-

I was on Depakote and Lithium about five years ago. I was on them for about three and a half or four months and I ended up gaining about 50 pounds. I'm not sure which medication it was but I didn't take it too well especially since my doctor at the time said he had no idea where it would stop. It's a really hard thing to deal with especially with depression already being part of the problem for most of us.

I ended up having to get off of both of those but even so, I have never lost it all. Eight pounds isn't really that bad but if it's something you're worried about, I would talk to your doctor about it and see what he/she has to say. There are way too many drugs out there that can help with the mood swings without making you gain weight.

Good luck!

I tell ya now it was more than likely the Lithium. I am on Lithium and after gaining 106 lbs it finally stopped. However, I can't seem to lose it either. Alot of it is water gain. I can't take a high dosed water pill cuz then it will wash the med away. Sad story is I can't get off the med now that I've been on it for 3 years. He did try to ween me off of it and put me on Abilify but that made me feel like I had ADHD...lol. So now who the heck knows whats gonna happen. So, goodluck to ya. I don't know about the med your on but don't get on Lithium.

Hi Connie!

I take Lamictal (I'm BP 1 rapid cycling) and haven't gained a pound... My pdoc knows that if they give me anything that makes me gain even 5 pounds, I'll stop taking it (WHICH OF COURSE IS STUPID, SO DON'T DO THAT )

From what I understand, the research shows that less than 4% of people studied gained 5 pounds or more on it....

Kimmmie i also take Lamictal and have gained no weight on it. The doctor told me before she put me on it that people rarely do gain weight

i gained 20 olbs in a year. it has taken me a year to take it off. i am also on seroquel (100 mg at nite) i also take lamictal.i am no dr. but i think possibly seroquel might slow down your metalbolism. i have tried to eat healthier and exercise (which is mainly chasing around my grandkids) plus working. when i am hypomanic it also increased my metabolism...good luck to you and you can try to pray those extra pounds off.
