fizzio-

i absolutely agree with your doctor about the anti-deps- i took one for so many years not knowing i was bi-polar and it made me so much worse. i believe that if i had been properly diagnosed- i would not have ever gotten as bad as i did.

i refuse to "put up with" weight gain as a side effect- exercise and diet have not helped and if anything... the medicines are useless if my weigh problem is making me depressed! no amount of medicine will makeup for the way i feel about my weight...

i guess the good news is- my cycling has slowed down pretty dramatically since i have stopped shuffling medications. the main symptoms that are bothersome at the moment are the irritability and agitation...

honestly, i am starting to think i would rather not be on medication at all.

(haha lets see how i feel in a month or two... i may be running back to it all!)

thanks to everyone for their feedback!

Hi, tideturns, I do hope you are not considering going off your medications without your doctors approval, they say that if you get off a med and then restart it, that it doesn't always work as well as it did the first time.. Lithium is one of the longest studied medications used for treating bipolar.

Guess that for the moment I am one of the lucky ones, I started with Lamictal (august of last year) and I am still on it, and besides a couple of increases, it is working fine, don't have to take a antidepressant, which is wonderful as I was on them for years.

Consider your mental state back when and your mental state now, some of the side effects can be over looked for how you are doing.

i understand your concern about me stopping without permission.... but my doctor was the one who told me to stop taking the lamictal. the rash had gotten very bothersome and started forming along my jawline...

now that i am off all meds except for the klonopin- i honestly feel a bit better. i am giving myself a medicine vacation to see how i feel after a while. i stopped taking lamictal on jul 16th. it has been a month and although i got into a mud state on one day while feeling restless- i know when to call my doctor. so far, so good.

i honestly feel better now than i did on lamictal... or trileptal... etc.

an since i am off of anti-depressants- i actually feel emotions and am finally greiving a death that happened last october.
