Has anyone on Lamictal had a problem with falling down, or just in general being more clumsy than usual?

I just started 75mgs of Lamictal this morning, after having titrated up from 3 wks of 50 mg & the two weeks prior being 25 mg. I took quite a spill in a restaurant parking lot about an hour ago, and have just been generally clumsy since - walking/bumping into things, knocking things over, & a second spill in my office putting away supplies.

I guess it might be weird to ask since I just started the dosage change this morning, but I typically notice side effects right away. So, to err on the side of caution here, I'd just like to know if anyone else has experienced anything similar?

Also, a loss of appetite? I noticed when I started the 50 mg's 3 weeks ago, that I lost my appetite almost completely. I was just at an appt. yesterday & my doc wants me to kind of stick it out as we continue to titrate up, and see if I regain my appetite back.

The good news! So far today my mood has been completely level. I haven't had any of my normal anxieties, and have not experienced any of my normal "lows" - which I've usually had 2 or 3 times by now. I just haven't had them at all today. Kinda hoping that this is starting to work!

Thanks for any input!

I was on Lamictal for 3 months and the only side effect I found was occasional dizziness.

I have been on Lamictal for 3 mos and its been great.

I did experience some dizziness in the beginning.

I mostly experienced my brain not functioning as well as it usually did. All that has passed, though. I am on 600 mg. It really worked for my depression.

thanks, Gypsy

I've been on it for about 3 months also. I try to force myself to do too much sometimes and I find the old body goes a bit loopy -I get vertigo -dizzy. When I stop pushing myself it usually goes away quickly. Were you doing anything in a rush or over excited?

Just curious, let us know how it for you after this, ok? I'm hoping it goes away for you.

Well, I've been fine for the past couple of days. When I fell and was clumsy on Wednesday I was going to get my lunch at the restaurant next door. I haven't experienced any dizziness or falling since then.

I have done some strenuous activities and been excited since then, and have had no issues.

I think my body just needed to acclimate itself to the new dosage.

I also haven't experienced any major slowness of thought - in fact, my mind seems to be just a half step below racing, which is a half step below what it normally is. I'm also not experiencing half of the anxieties I've felt before in the course of a normal day.

Minus Wednesday, I'd have to say overall I've been feeling better - obviously not including the dizziness & falling I initially experienced!

Thank you to everyone who responded with some input. I really really really appreciate it.

hi,

Becareful, of strenuous activity, and getting over heated. You can be very sensitive to over heating. Also, the meds take a while to get into your system. The pdoc will gradually up the Lamictal. The symptoms are supposed to get better over time.

It has been a great med for me , so far...........Godbless, Gypsy

I am only slow in my mind because of self abuse of over-using my mind prior to beginning any medications. I would not attribute it to Lamictal, but that it is beginning to help me reclaim my sharpness of mind.

I'm so glad you have grown accustomed to the new dosage. I was also a bit drowsy for the first hour after I took my morning dose. So, I keep my medication (Lamictal) right at my bedside and a bottle of water to take it with. When I awake whatever time it is in the morning, I always take my Lamictal then. It is not a problem so much now, but I still do it out of habit. Oh, yes, I use a pill holder for the days of the week. That way I have no confusion which day to take. The day before would be empty.

I hope you continue with less side effects and more success!

God BLess you in hope and healing Sister BP!

WEIRD! I've been wondering the exact same thing, because I've been telling everyone how clumsy I have been since starting Lamictal. I really feel it's a side effect, along with slightly slurred speech and lack of short-term memory. The second two I'm not sure of, but as they say on my favorite TV show, "Myth Confirmed!"
