Hi

My husband is bipolar and is on Lamictal. At 50 gr he got into extreme ranges, threatening to kill himself, me destroy everything. After 150 mg he was fine but I think he does not take it daily so he flies into really bad rages. Any advice ? Thanhks

If his script is for 150mg a day maybe you can set up a pill box to help him keep track of his meds. I'm sure you've tried telling him his behaviour is unacceptable when he isn't taking his meds properly, so maybe this approach will be less confrontational. Good luck as your situation sounds difficult. Billyb

Thank you for the advice. We have had marital and financial problems for 1 year now so finding out about this bipolar has not helped. i am extremely upset as after 1 month on Lamictal he became the person he was and things were getting better. i am super upset he basically does not care enough to keep taking the meds or say "let's go to the doctor" to find out what works and what does not. I don't know where his personality ends and bipolar starts. How do you tell someone who is threatening to kill you, himself etc that his behaviour is unacceptable. He still goes into the rages at times

I completely understand your situation. If he's not willing to help himself, your hands are tied. It sounds like you need a safe place to go to stay away from him until he commits himself to getting well. I don't know if that is possible for you. This is the classical case where a hospital stay is necessary, but it doesn't sound like he'd be open for that. make sure his psychiatrist(hope you have one) is aware of his condition. He might be of some help. Stay safe. Billyb
