Thanks pixie - you are just full of information!!! (Where did you attain that knowledge? Are you an artist or art fanatic? Both? So many questions, I know; but inquiring minds... blah blah blah!!) And you speak french to boot??? The title alone sheds light on many of my questions... I assumed the paiting represented a birth of some kind, but was never sure of the specifics. I'm really bothered by what the cabbage leaf-like object suspended over the egg represents... any ideas??? Also; what's up with the phone lines? Do they represent something specific or are they there for perspective's sake???

You are welcome. I like art alot but I like French things better. I am not sure about the cabbage is. Geopolitics would probably have to do with the phone lines. Still not sure about the leaf. I will try to find out.

Hey Kim and Pixie, This is the sculpture he modeled for the painting..Great translation Pix. Hope this answers some of your questions Kim, enjoy.

Enfant géopolitique observant la naissance de l'homme nouveau" from 1943.

Dali's „Birth of the New Man". A sculpture from the Mouseion Collection. The motif is in the center of the painting „Geopolitical Child Watches the Birth of the New Man". Collection of the Dali Museum in Spain.

Madrid (bpb) Dali's sculptures of the Parastone-Mouseion Collection are on exhibition at the Museum of European Art at the Nörvenich Castle near Köln. These small sculptures can be found in the paintings of Salvador Dali. To them belongs the table-size sculpture "The Birth of the New Man". The egg-sculpture is the central point of the painting „Enfant géopolitique observant la naissance de l'homme nouveau" from 1943. The painting is in the collection of the Dali Museum in Spain.

The sculpture says: the new man has to free himself from the past. This is depicted by the image of a birth from an egg. With curiosity, the child watches, being protected by his mother, the birth of a man from a plastic egg. On this globe, which has been turned into an egg, the continents recede. Here comes into being the symbol of the new order, a new beginning of a perfect world. The longing of all men comes to be expressed in this noble sculpture.

The sculpture with stand is about 12.5 centimeters high. The Douseion Collection contains five other sculptures: 'Dali-Lady with Drawers', 'Dali Space-Horse', 'Dali Space-Elephant', 'Portrait Pablo Picasso' and 'Soft self-portrait Dali with Fried Bacon'.

Life is a journey, not a destination.

Laissez les bons temps rouler.

Each day is a new canvas to paint upon. Make sure your picture is full of life and happiness, and at the end of the day you don't look at it and wish you had painted something different.

That's the one!!!! Wow - thank you so much Dreux!! I can now gaze upon my framed print possessing a deeper understanding of the message it delivers!!! I didn't check out the links you posted yet, but I have them saved to my Favorites and I will definitely visit those sites later. You just put an end to my perpetual frustration!!!(I just realized the phone lines I asked about are in another Dali print I have that's an image of a big black phone... sorry!!!) Do you have any idea what the suspended "cabbage leaf" represents?

Hey Kim, My personal interpretation is the "cabbage" is the black cloud of mans past, hovering over the rebirth, while the white cloth under the egg represents the purity, and hope of the new birth. The nice thing about art is everyone see something different.

The Sun 1912

Norwegian artist Edvard Munch (1863 – 1944) created haunting paintings conveying the grief of his own life. Initially inspired by Impressionism and Post-Impressionism while painting in Paris and Berlin, Munch developed his signature style filled with agonizing images of sickness and death. His profound sadness, which he believed fueled his creativity, was caused by one sister’s commitment to an asylum, and the deaths of his other sister, mother and father before he was 25. An exhibition of his work in Berlin was considered so disturbing that authorities closed the show. The powerful influence of Munch’s enormous body of work is still felt in today’s graphic art.
