I made an incredibly good veggie and tofu soup. I swear I could eat this for three meals a day and be satifisfied.

Hi (((EVERYONE))) trying to lose weight today and centerseeker, Bob, IDNK, & Wyndrake! Just stopping by to encourage all of you. Sounds like everyone is making good progress. Today the scale said I lost 1/2 a pound, but I don't believe it until it registers it for a few days in a row because my weight is so up-and-down. See you soon. -Sarah

Hello! yeah. I don't believe it either. My scale gave me three different weights in one day!

Bob I'd be happy to tell you how I made the soup. I used chicken broth but my sister makes the same soup with vegetable broth and it is just as good.

I used half a big onion chopped, a generous amount of jarred minced garlic, three celery stalks chopped and shredded half a head of cabbage then I sauteed all that in a splash of olive oil until it was somewhat wilty. Then I added i think about 4 cups of broth and one can of diced tomatoes, juice and all. Threw in about two handfuls of green beans and a can of kidney beans. Cubed a block of light tofu and added it. Brought everything to a boil then lowered to a simmer.

Simmer was supposed to be 45 minutes but I fell asleep watching Deep Space Nine and woke to all the broth cooked away! Shocked So I added some water and a can of crushed tomatoes and seasoned to taste with oregano, chili powder, red pepper, black pepper, salt and onion powder.

I have to say I am glad I almost wrecked it, the cabbage is awesome cooked down that much and it is even better today than yesterday.

As I said, switching from half and half in my coffee to 0% was the hardest thing I have ever done. Removing that tiny little bit of fat content made a huge difference.

Try this for breakfast:

a cup of lowfat cottage cheese with a banana smashed in it, and a load of cinnamon. It's a yummy as a banan split ^_^

Sounds good but I am doing South Beach and fruit is out for two weeks. May try that after the first two weeks when fruit is allowed back in.

I had an improv show last night and after we always go to the same restaurant. I prepared well. They put popcorn on the table when you sit down, which is a South Beach phase one no-no so I brought peanuts to munch, which are an allowed snack. Then I knew for my dinner I was going to want this crab dip they serve with chips so I brought a bag of celery. I also drank water instead of soda which is huge for me. I always drink a lot of soda out.

Sorry. I know I ramble on this thread a lot but it felt good to have planned so that I could go out without sabotaging my diet.Smile

Hi, just a few quick tips

- Try to ALWAYS wegh yoursel on the SAME scale. Not all scales are calibrated the same, this way you can be sure of your weight loss.

- Only weigh yourself once a week, otherwise tou can get very de moralized.

- Atkins works, BUT it has to be a lifetime commitment or you put that weight ALL back on plus - I know!

- Thunderdawg, those small changes like O% milk, sweetners,(Just research them to see which one is healthiest, low carb, low GI, low fat (read lables, under 5g of fat per 100g of product is acceptable, soup as a snack, Fish, Fish, Fish, white meat of chicken-no skin.

-Vegatables are your best friend!

-Lot's of water is essential.

- get moving!!!!

Sounds like everyone is doing well. Back on 40mg cortisone a day, put on a kilogram in one week, so I am a bit despondent. But will work harder at it this week!

The most effective way i have found to lose weight is to cut out carbs completely no alcohol no sweets or chocolate or root veg and just focus on protein veg and fruits. i hav berries and fat free natural yoghurt for breakfast salad n protein two apples for lunch and protein with veg or stirfrys or something like omlette salad. no fizzy drinks. i lost 2st lasf year when combined with exercise. its tge only way i hav ever lost weight. iv bn ill this year since xmas n iv put a stone back on but im starting the diet again tom n exercise sn when i come out of my current low period as iv had bipolar for 20yrs and im still learning.....x

Previous discussions I participated in:

Are you sure you are getting all the vitamins and minerals you need. Your body actually needs some carbs for energy. If your body doesnt, it starts using muscle to function and that is not a good idea! I dont however eat carbs much after 3pm and never after 5pm.

There are so many diets, and some work well, but ultim ately most people stop dietng once thy have reached goal weght and it all goes on again. I know, i have tried more diets that I can count! And I can relate to eating the wrong foods when you are not in a good space, food is comforting!!

Laurencat the reason I like South Beach is that it isn't a diet in the true sense. There are three phases. Phase one no carbs or sugar, phase two slowly add in good carbs and phase three you can add back in some favorite not-so-hot carbs like starchy veggies and bread but in moderation. If I keep following it it is less a diet and more a retraining on how to eat healthy over a lifetime really.

Fruits have natural carbs don't they? I know they aren't allowed in phase one of south beach anyway.
