MDJunction to me

grandmasylvia"MDJ has been "a soft place to fall" for me as Dr Phil says. I have this very painful rare disease Dercum's Disease and take comfort in finding others here who share their knowledge and compassion. Many
members have helped me just by understanding my anguish and validating
my pain. We are working together to encourage research toward a cure.

So to start, I MADE THE DEAN'S LIST for this past semester! HUGE accomplishment for me. I spent the entire second week of classes in-patient to get back on meds. Then, I had to have a major surgery, and I missed two weeks of the last month of school. Needless to say, it was very difficult to catch up, and do as well as I did. I had to work very hard.

So anyhow, I posted about my accomplishment in a nursing forum, and my first comment was "a bi-polar nurse...hmmmm...". How rude, you know? I mean, for someone going into the medical field, or already in, to be so douchie was a total shock. You would think with all the media coverage, books, tv shows, movies, and all the info on the web, a person like that would have a little more knowledge, or cooth at least.

I will say, though, that it didn't hurt my feelings, as it usually would have. I have seen what I am capable of, and what I can, and have, overcome. The comment onlyn saddened and annoyed me.

But hey, it's all good, because I MADE THE DEAN'S LIST!!

Congratulations, the dean's list is a very big accomplishment. The individual who made the rude comment is very ignorant and insensitive. I would pay them no attention, unless they show up in the facility that you work at after graduation.

My personal opinion, any person can be good at a given job, not matter their background. My girlfriend is (was) a Charge Nurse until she had to take medical leave so she could deal with her cancer. Oh, and she is BP 2 as well as OCD. I can't think of anyone I would rather have taking care of my medical needs besides her. She is very thorough and definitely knows her job very well. For example, I had to leave her house in a hurry due to my grandpa being getting a helicopter ride to a regional hospital. When I got there, I called to let her know what was going on and she told me several things to make sure the medical staff where doing.

I know that if I were ever in the hospital, I would pity the staff taking care of me. She would be all in their business making sure that I was well taken care of.

Again, congratulations on making the dean's list. I wish you continued success in your studies.

If it is worth having, it is worth fighting for.

I hate how it's "okay" to be a famous actor or writer and have bipolar, but to have regular jobs, it's something your clients should be worried about. I think (and this has major personal bias) that someone with bipolar naturally has to be self-aware, hard working, and sensitive to the needs of themselves and others. In my opinion, that adds up to a GREAT worker, in any field. Just saying.

And, might I add, that it was AMAZING of you to make the deans list though all of that!!!!!!!!!!! That just shows how good you are at managing your life!

I was going to congratulate you re: Getting your ass chapped. But the Dean's List is pretty cool too, and it goes on your permanent record and you can tell everyone about it. Getting your ass chapped . . . not so much -- I definitely wouldn't tell your mother . . . !

That is awesome! You overcame some real challenges and made quite an accomplishment. You should feel proud. As for the comment, consider the source and write off as a ignorant person and a bit of a jerk, too. Job well done!

Deans list? That's huge. That's huge for anyone but with the year you've had I'd say that is amazing and you should be proud as all get out!

You Rock!

As far as the internet slam, I could fill pages on why the person is wrong and an arse but I'd rather take my time to repeat myself:
