MDJunction to me

Macv"For me, MDjunction has been a place where I can share my experiences
living with the very rare bone disease called Ollier's ( Enchondromatosis ) with the parents of children recently diagnosed. I can help them not to run
into the pitfalls my parents did when I was young, give them a bit of a view
from their child's perspective and simply be there to offer support and
hope to people who are scared and just had their lives upended. I also belong to a chronic pain group and it's been a Godsend to be able to actually
talk with others who understand what I'm dealing with. Besides them helping me through my tough times, I can be there to help them as well. Here too, I can use my years of experience to help others avoid pitfalls and it makes me feel good, gives my life more purpose. MDjunction brings people
together when their suffering, at their darkest and feeling alone in this world and allows some light to be brought back into their lives. HOPE, that's what
MDjunction means to me!

So I am at my son's appartment and go out the front door of the building to smoke. I'm standing there when 5 young ladies(?) between late teens and mid 20s in in age approach. I open the door for them as I hear the lead girl say "... and people with PTSD just can't do anything useful..."! I held the door and let them pass and the last girl says "Thank you." to which I reply "Your welcome. At least we can hold doors open".

I don't think she caught a clue or 'Heard the wings flapping' as we used to say.

Where do these people come up with this drivel? How does Mental illness make us 'useless'?

Some days I reckon a 4x4 would be better!

(Translation:4x4 is what we call a 4 wheel drive vehicle here in Oz)

I am not sick, I am enhanced.

People say these things take time. I say a nanosecond should be long enough.

Lamotragine 150mg bd; Dex 10mg 3x daily; Seroquel XR 300mg; Seroquel 25mg-50mg prn; Lexapro 2.5mg

I don't burn the candle at both ends,
I break it in half so I can burn all four.

Sorry, my magic wand is broken. You'll have to see a doctor instead.

good response, cptblack!

it's one thing to know on an intellectual level that there are a lot of ignorant people out there, but it's a whole other thing to experience it live and direct on your smoke break.

where do people get it? from all over- friends, the media, the internet, but almost never from first-hand experience with someone living it. at the risk of generalizing. of course, my experience of many 'normal' people is a much higher degree of complacency with what is sometimes called "received wisdom" than is found among the diagnosed... in extreme cases, resulting in what i call the "Say it loud, I'm stupid and proud" tendency that infects discussions about so many things these days...

Bipolar 2 with a shot of Aspergers and a touch of Agoraphobia/Citalopram, Lithium and Dextroampheta Sulfate, Caffeine, etc...

if what i say makes sense to you, you might want to bear in mind that i'm mentally ill.

Idiots. Pay no attention to them. We are not useless. We are not different than anyone else. It is drivel. Treat it as such. And to those who spout the drivel, well that is their punishment. To stay ignorant. They have to live with themselves. Best revenge is to ignore them and keep being the good person you are.

I was thinking about this earlier this evening. I was thinking about the prejudiced cr@p my father used to sprout about anything and everything. A person less critical and cynical than myself would take all this on board from an early age as the truth and the way things really are.

Even education at this point doesn't eradicate this mind set and so it is then preached to other clueless clods who don't have a brain to share between them. By this stage the only thing that will change their minds is by a very close encounter with, or developing these disorders themselves.

At that age the defense mechanisms are fully functional and working at full force. The PTSD comment probably came from a girl who was desperately trying to make sense out of her perpetually unhappy life. Her crap probably comes from self hatred, not that this excuses her behavior. Unfortunately, people with psych issues make for easy punching bags. She'll get what's coming to her sooner or later. Nice comeback by the way.

I visit the food bank one or two times a month, and one day I read online someone saying that food-bank people are useless, greedy, poor-mouthing wastes of skins, who's only goal in life is to use the government to get money, eat, and procreate more leeches into the system. geepers.

There are mean and ignorant jerks everywhere. I can't get away from them!
