I saw a 107 hear index once yesterday. But that was Weather Bug and none of the local stations reported that high.

I know you've probably seen sports clips of cars tumbling for long distances and throwing off parts and thought "That was bad"! The worst accidents are when you hit a wall or something and just stop! Flipping burns off momentum and slows the car. Hitting solidly you get ALL the impact NOW.

It leaves you saying "I don't want to go to school today Mommy. And can you answer that phone?" to the EMTs.Blink

I once had a piece of ruber fly up and jam the throttle at I-70 Speedway. I figured it out and killed the engine but I knew I was going to hit a ton so I threw it sideways. It didn't sound like a crash it was just "WHUMP!" like a stick of dynamite. It not only ripped the roof loose and sent it over the wall, it broke the right frame in two places and snapped a bunch of rollover bars.

I moved everything around on my body and decide I'm in one piece then notice the red flag is out (All racers stop HERE and NOW!). I undid the harness and stood up on the seat to see who crashed so bad. The crowd broke out in cheers so I took a bow.

They sent me to the hospital to get checked out but except for being on an Advil diet the next week I was fine. Bumps and bruises.

Racers have to be a little nuts. I was over-qualified! Tongue

They had to rebuild the car before I'd race it the first time. Nothing big but it was my "Soft-sided" design that probably saved me. After this wreck they rebuilt the other (Star) driver's car that way and got me a new one already set up this way.

Proper preperation can help Lady Luck out quite a bit. And you only skimp on your saftey gear if your suicidal.
