Each age has great writers, jollyjoe. One hundred years from now the writers that are writing today will be the classics.

And to stay on topic, because this thread is devoted to personal beliefs and experiences, my experience with reading the Bible, or any other work that tries to capture the spiritual experience, is the symbolism in the writing. The idea of an afterlife, resurrection, the great flood, etc. can be seen in many different writings. The names change but the stories, and symbols are so similar, to me that is the real sign that it is not concidence or contrived. That these ideas are ingrained in our past confirms for me that there is something there to believe in. I just take the next step voluntarily and choose, my own choice, to believe in all of it.

Comments made by me are from my own experience and they are my opinion alone, whose intent is only to share that opinion and not to give medical advice nor discourage from seeking medical help. Medicine is best left to the professionals that is what they do.

Trishy...that is the best part...reading and getting several meanings. And it shows the importance of the words chosen in the writing...words have nuance like colors...picking the right words is like painting so many shades to choose from. And each reader has their own idea after reading it. Interpretation is left to the individual...just got to love it...

Jollyjoe...next time I am on a Barnes and Noble binge I will order that book, thanks...

you guys would laugh...my house is filled with books...they spill out everywhere...

Interesting topic on reincarnation, I've known several people who believe they know who they were in a past life.

John, I don't believe we have to "know" who we were, we remember in the small recesses of our minds the things we learned before and so don't do them if they were the wrong thing to do or do them if they were the right thing to do, and we aim at making ourselves better at each point in our lives, like we do here, we have different stages of life, how many of us would want to go back and relive the teen years, or the early adult years knowing what we know now.

Good morning ... I've been reading up and love the discussions here: the great writers, interpretations of literature, beliefs, etc. This is important information that people should really think about. There is so much information out there, and if selected with care, can develop an individual and guide destiny in ways only a refined mind can achieve. It is important to give ourselves intellectual food! I have over three book cases of books at home; ranging from psychology to spirituality to theology to relationships to communication to nature and the universe to poetry/art to cooking ... I got books (but have I read them all - not at all!) It bothers me that I am so active in my bipolar nature that I don't just sit my butt down to read! Honestly, all that wonderful information, some becoming obsolete, but some - like the great writers (for me Thoreau, Whitman, God ...) ALWAYS are timeless reads. Beliefs are important to have, however mundane or bizarre they become. I am inspired to collect my thoughts about what I believe, using this conversational outlet on beliefs, and I may be influenced here as well! I am not afraid to learn, sometimes I am afraid, however, to stick to a belief, yet I am very afraid to leave God! Fear may not be the right emotion, but "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."- Bible. Wisdom, on life, my existance, why we are here, really matters to me Smile
