I believe in being kind to people...

Sure, I believe there is a God.

But if people focused more on kindness and love, rather than being seen on Sunday in your suit and tie... or the nuances and rituals of your own religion, I think the world would be a ... well... kinder place.

I agree, but a lot of religious organizations do considerable good in this world. I, personally, don't belong to one, but I see the good they do.

YorkieLove, I agree. The Methodist church I grew up in was a good, loving church, IMO. However, I do not feel like I am a good fit for organized religion. I believe that the creator wishes for us to do 2 things..

1) love your fellow man, and help him up when he is down.

2) be good stewards of the Earth.

We don't do such a good job with either, sadly.

the key is your relationship with God... you go to church in order to hear his word and learn how to apply his word to your everyday life. every church is NOT for everybody... you have to find where you are supposed to be. I can only speak from my experience... I KNOW God is real... because I know that the blessings I received can only come from God... 2009 was my beginning to my spiritual healing... I was on this site broken and depressed because of my battle with BP and all that it had cost me career, relationships... 2010 I stopped running from God and decided to listen to his word and obey what he wanted me to do... I stopped worrying and just let him handle my problems... he led me to the church where I'm supposed to be... since I started obeying his word... he has healed my finances where they are doubled what they were... I purchased a house in Nov of 2010... I am not going to say that things don't get hard because they do... although I am healed spiritually... my body has not caught up with my spirit... so I have to live with symptoms of BP... but I can truly tell you that it is NO WHERE near as hard as it was before I started giving my troubles over to him... I am NOT trying to change anybody's mind and I don't argue about religion... all that's up to each person to believe whatever they believe... We all have free will... I can ONLY share my experience... I know God is real and he can make it better... way... way... better...

I think prayer has really played a part in keeping things rolling with my illness and life. I have faced obstacles. Nothing is really right in my life. My belief in god makes me know he has something planned for me because I have escaped death to many times. I have been angry at him many times and felt sorry for myself. I had to reframe things that god did not cause this illness or my circumstances. He gives me the strength and will to learn and embrace the people around me, my family who I really never got to know. I don't go to church all the time. I am so thankful because through Christ all things are possible.
My experience is no substitute for sound medical advice.

capecod84 yes it is... God knows your heart and he does have a plan for you... you are on your way... I was where you are now just a year ago... He will heal you in all ways... I know it... I want to encourage you on your journey... look for the good in all situations... I can promise you that when you things are NEVER as bad as they look... never walk by sight... always walk by faith and you shall have what you say... Mark 11:24 (I think but it around there) speak it believe it and then claim it... and its yours... you will know when you are ready... again I encourage you on your journey... Smile

where does all the hatred come from when religion is being discussed. like i was angry because my kid had to write a paper about religion in school or whatever. that is stupid to get upset over that. the world is full of religion and they should have to write about whatever the teacher says and not be restricted because a parent might get pissed off. why should they be sheltered from christianity. if they don't believe in it, to bad. they write on books that are fiction and non-fiction so why should it matter.

johndavid, generally hatred for "religion" comes from the way it has been abused for so many years. It's been used for political gain. As justification for war. etc.

I am a member of a baptist church who helps provide glasses, baby asperin, food and labor help in Haiti. We also provide coats and other winter gear to children in need. Have a prison ministry. Provide clothes for a local school and many other good works so I have to say I think organized religion often gets a bad rep.

That said, my personal belief is merely being a member of a church is not a relationship with God. Prayer and bible study, in my mind, are what forges a good relationship with God. Attending church is a chance to have fellowship with other believers and a place to pool resources for good works.
