WARNING: THIS THREAD MIGHT CONTAIN THINGS THAT COULD CAUSE TRIGGERS, READ ONLY IF YOU FEEL THAT YOU CAN.

Smile Smile Smile Good Morning y'all, the need has been expressed for a more interactive thread about your personal beliefs and experiences, I'm still going to supervise the Beliefs thread and will watch over this one, same rules apply here, " BE NICE, NO ARGUING, NO DISCOUNTING ANOTHER'S BELIEFS OR EXPERIENCES, ASK ALL THE QUESTIONS YOU WOULD LIKE, OFFER UP YOUR OWN PERSONAL EXPERIENCES, ETC.

If one of the other leaders have time, I would love some help in watching over both threads, I believe they have equal merit.

So to start us off with personal experience, when it came time for me to get sober, I had reached the point of being beaten, I just could not continue on the path that I was taking, I "sued" for peace, prayed to have peace, can't remember the chapter in the Bible where it talks about this, maybe Red can fill in the blanks, I got the peace that I seeked, 24 hours of the most wonderful peace I had ever known. It for me was almost like I was in a bubble, I could see the chaos and insanity swirling around me, but it could not touch me, I went into rehab just a short time later, and I have been clean and sober ever since.

"Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle."

Terry:

When I became Catholic, my Priest was part of the ...can't remember the freaken word!! anyway, he said that God gives everyone a gift, and his gift was the ability to understand when someone speaks in tongues. Because to the rest of us, it sounds like gibberish. But he could interrpit it, that was his gift. If I can remember the word, I'll let you know.

It's the same word as the church that handles snakes and such is called. Catholics have a branch of that as well.

They call me Jrock :)

Could the word you are looking for be Pentecostal, charismatic or holiness? There are so many terms for speaking tongues. I was raised Catholic and married an Assembly of God believer.

I am no longer what you could say main stream because I have been down so many different roads I am constantly evolving in my belief system.

The Pentecostal movement can really be out there and I have witnessed some bizarre situations that I never care to repeat.

Yeah, I was just coming back to say charismatic catholics, thanks.

And Assembly of God was the church my kids went to for a while. They got uncomfortable with some of the things that went on there and stopped going.

I was brought up Baptist (strict) and turned Catholic for my exhusband so we could raise the kids catholic. the ironic thing is, he remarried and turned Baptist for his new wife. Go figure.

You are welcome.

Yes I can imagine they did become uncomfortable. Especially if they see witnessed people being slain in the spirit, demons being cast out of people, people laughing out of control, claiming their teeth just turned to gold. I hope they did not have to witness anything like that.

Yep, I was Catholic and turned Assmebly for my husband. We are still married, but it all became too bizarre for me. It's fine for them, but it's not my thing.

I am not a regular at church. I do my own studying at home. I can't take the controlling religion tends to bare on people.

We didn't discuss it, they just said it 'wasn't their thing' and I left it at that. They were teens and old enough.

Myself, I don't go to church. And we'll leave it at that Smile

I haven't gone to church other than funerals and I've really had enough of those to last for a while.
