MDJunction to me

peasha"This has been one of the most supportive places I have ever been. I found MDJ by mistaking looking for drs to help me with my many health issues and since that day over a year ago I have found a tight nit little family that keeps me going when the times are tough and offers me a place of retreat to share my successes and failures with others. I get to see the humor and seriousness of what I experience as well as the resources to learn about my health conditions. Thanks MDJ" (peasha)

Agnosticism, particularly claims regarding the existence of God, gods, deities, is unknown or, depending on the form of agnosticism, inherently impossible to prove or disprove. The belief that there can be no proof either that God exists or that God does not exist.

Theologians and philosophers have tried to prove, for millennia, that God exists. Others have attempted to prove that God does not exist. Agnostics feel that neither side has convincingly succeeded at their task. Unlike atheists, agnostics have rarely felt any need to institutionalize their beliefs. There are many misconceptions about agnosticism, agnostics, and the reasons why anyone would adopt a position of agnosticism in the first place. This is unfortunate, because whether agnosticism is conceived of as a philosophy or simply an isolated position on the existence of gods, it is eminently reasonable and defensible. Agnosticism is a skeptical challenge to the notion that any religious conclusion can really be "known" in the first place.

I don’t feel the need to put my faith and adoration into the unknown. Instead, I adore my children and the wonder that they are. I touch a flower and my heart swells. I see a bird and my dreams can fly, but I don't see a God giving me any of these things.

I see my friend die from cancer; I don’t blame your God. I see a child born with deformities; I do not blame your God. I see a child abused, I do not blame your God.

I can neither adore nor condemn your god because I have no proof he exists.

To believe in your God I would have to lay credit for all the misfortunes in life at his feet. If he does all good, he must do all bad. That is why I have chosen to be agnostic at this time in my life. I very simply do not know.

Glory - What you said is awesome. Very well put! The one thing I keep thinking about is......we (humans) have a higher level of thinking. And with that comes all the thoughts about what, where, when and why. If our brains are wired to keep pushing forward with questions, where does the question of who am I and why am I here come from?

I love this discussion. Thank you!

And BTW - I love your new hair color! Reminds me of me!

Let me introduce myself. I'm Linda....aka Zoe.

glory this is a very smart topic to raise. i have a couple of things to add to what you have written. agnosticism does have some intutionalized elements or philosophies, most of which combine agnosticism with something else such as theism. additional there is in some thought 'agnostic buddhism' which holds that god is of the mind. i'm no expert on all this but skepticism of different belief structures is fundamental.

atheism is interesting in many ways but 2 stand out - the number of great thinkers who were either atheists or argued against the existence of god. Nietche et al, would probably be called social atheists. also atheism is linked to anarchism. anarchy isn't what most think it is - a discussion for another.

thanks Glory - that felt good.

death happens every tiniest fragment of time and happens again every smaller tiniest fragment of time and there can be a tiniest fragment of time that makes life worth not losing . . .

Zoe, that is actually my real color. lol I love it. For me, the what is human being, the where is here and now, the when is when it happens, and the why is the natural evolution of our minds. The who is Gloria, and the why is shining in my children's faces.

Glory - The natural you! You are beautiful! OK - back to the discussion. Don't you think that the problem is the "WHY?" That's where we start asking, "Why am I here, why am I motivated to do the things I do.....why do bad things happen...." We crave a solution. We crave a "higher power" that is controlling things we don't understand.

I am sooooo curious.....what do you mean when you say "the natural evolution of our minds"....?

To me, history itself relates ongoing evolution, or developement of our brains. Not the size, but the capacity and motivation to learn. Zoe, I don't have all the answers, but I just don't over think my life. I am here to procreate. I am motivated by need. I do things because there is a reason. (turn on the heater because I am cold...lol) I don't crave a solution. A solution to what? What is the puzzle? Finally, I am Agnostic, I have no need of a higher power, to enjoy life.

Thank you Glory - I think it's "craving a solution" that gets us all wound up. We seem to create a puzzle in our minds (the "whys".) I think that's where the need for a higher power comes from. Thank you!
