Norma, I also used quitnet.com which has some good information on stopping. They also give you a quit tool that tells you how much money you saved and how much of your life you have gained back from not smoking. They will send you encouraging emails.

You can do it! If you conquered the other addictions!

Drink alot of water and acidic fruit juice like tomato and orange juice the first week, it helps to flush the nicotine out of your system.

Somedays it's not worth chewing through the restraints!

Great idea Mrs J, about the flushing with the water and fruit juice...thanks so much...I am working on it..

I smoked today...mea culpa..I have had 3 cigarettes...at odd hours. 7:00/9:00/11:00 I normally would have had half a pack.

I think one of the reasons I want to quit so badly is that to me smoking is a death wish. Each cigarette is saying I want to die. I don't want to die!!!!...LOL I like living too damned much. I felt good this morning on the way to work...cranked up the radio LOUD..."Ain't No Mountain High Enough" was on and I sang on the way to work.

OK, just got back from lunch and running errands. Here is sunny South Florida, gas is $4.05, diesel is $4.80, and my generic cigarettes are $1.60/pk. Looks like I'll die with one sticking out between my fingers. Wonder if I can put them in the gas tank?

I smoked yesterday, but due to the support from you guys I am not giving up. I only smoked 10 cig all day. Which is 75% less than I normally smoke each day...going from 2 packs to half a pack...now today i need to cut it in half...had one with coffee this am.

I feel so much better already, did not have my normal coughing fit when I woke up. The old body trying to tell me something isn't it???

By the way I am not one of those people who thinks that if I quit you have to quit too. I know what it is like to enjoy your cigarettes.

Quitting is an individual decision. I am at a stable place right now, son is doing well, marriage good, job good, all systems are go for doing it. If things were't like that I would hesitate. But, right now is a good time for me. Each person is different. I am at my window of opportunity.

Good for you Norma,Quitting not an all or nothing thing it's a process. I look at it like a med change(which it is,ridding your body from all sorts of chemicals that it is used to having)It takes a little while for your body to ajust. Patience and persistance.

Love ya, Dreux...thanks for the encouragement...I am self medicating with nicotine...and you are right it is just like a med change. Have to stay focused on the purpose of the change...look toward the gradual progress.

Oren, thanks for sharing that...i found when I am alone my cigarettes are my little friends...I know that is sick. But, they have kept me company for a long time and it is hard saying good bye...but, they aren't nice little friends are they??? LOL Each of us is at their own pace...you, are very smart. One day you will try again...is ok.

I smoke a pack and a half a day. I have tried the patch (got the sweats and racing heart), the gum and Chantix(both just made me want to smoke more- weird)and Wellbutrin- that turned me into an evil witch!!!!

I managed to quit for two months once and the only way I did it was to get on the treadmill for 45 minutes- AS SOON AS I GOT UP- to avoid the 1st smoke of the morning. Just climbed on in my pajamas and started running!

Obviously that didn't last long- still smoking! But a coworker told me today that cigarettes are going up to $10 per pack!!!!!!!!!!!!! So maybe that's a good thing- because at a pack and a half a day I will NOT spend that much on cigarettes! No way! Exercise (even though I hate it), eating normal meals, and going out to non smoking places helps. Cold Turkey works the best for me. But, as I said, I still smoke, so what do I know! LOL

Norma- Someone told me that smoking was a good way to distance yourself from others (going to have a smoke) and to keep yourself busy- feeling the inhale instead of doing something, anything else. Do you have any hobbies you like that involve keeping your hands busy? Like puzzles, knitting, painting, etc.? Good luck Norma- I am going to jump on your band wagon and quit too!
