Hi Sherie! Thanks for being here with us and sharing your story... You are not alone in this battle; so many of us have experienced the same resistance from loved ones. I agree with NewDay.... sometimes people need to see it in black & white before they are willing to accept that this disorder is REAl, not just imagined or psychosematic.... Here are a couple more links you may find interesting and want to share with your loved ones..... Hang in there & keep us posted on your progress

Welcome to the group Sherie...

I really can relate in the way your mom feels about you. My mom is in complete denial saying that "youre just putting on an act and you really don't need those meds."

I have been on all types of meds until the P-Doc found the right combo. I have been through 4 P-Docs until I found the one I have now. He listens to all my needs and frustrations I have at home.

My husband is my main support but sometimes he gets flustrated with me because he sometimes doesn't know what to do when I have one of my debilitating crisis of depression. He usually talks to me and calls the doctor when something arises. My P-Doc's office has a geat crisis intervention team to help when he is unable to help me.

I find keeping a journal helps in the bad days as well as the good ones you can possibly share with your P-Doc. He/She has to know what is working for you and what kind of feelings you are having. Besides a journal; I write poetry describing my feelings when I am upset, depressed or manic. It really helps me out...

Hope this helps you out...just take one day at a time

You can live with the bipolar disorder, not let bipolar disorder ruin you...

Sherie, I know that my g/f has decided not to tell her family. She feels like there is no point. They wouldn't understand and trying to get them too would just annoy her. I agree. "Never try to teach a pig to sing, it wastes your time and annoys the pig."

When I got sober, not only did my family not understand, they were actually threatened by it since they are all heavy drinkers/alcoholics. They would try and sabatoge me purposely at family gatherings by putting alcohol in my drinks. It has been several years and now they are over it but families can be the least supportive of anyone. They do the same thing if I try to go on a diet. Sabatoge, sabatoge, sabatoge. One of my g/f's fears is that they would use the diagnosis against her or try to upset her on purpose "just for fun."

You have delighted us long enough.
