I'm 40 this year, for a while now I thought my life was in good order, then a psychotic episode. Not talking with myself it wasn't like that. I had a major rage, to the point I am wore down for a few days after. This has always been my down phase, at least for the last seven years. Until then my life was pretty charming, I mean no problems. Then a crazy ex-wife, child custody civil suits, business issues and money issues; all combined at once changed me. I have been told that I was bipolar, I blew it off, then I met a new doctor and it was crystal clear for him, I was diagnosed Bipolar. I researched everything regarding the illness and it was clear for me to, then I imagined how it could of been different if I had taken this more serious long ago. So I started Depakote ER, the first night I awoke at 3:00 in the a.m. and my left side of my face was involuntarily smiling and my eye was shutting, freaked me out, I thought my god I am stroking out. Both my hands felt like they were trembling with the rush of blood, everything subsided and I'm still here.

Welcome Scott, glad you found us....please make yourself at home. How long ago did you have your problem with the Depakote??? Was it recently?

You have your hands full...Scott. Call the doc if you haven't already and tell him/her that you had that happen...if you have any more weird symptoms you might need to get the doc to change meds. There are lots of great meds for bipolar now.

Hi Scott,

Welcome. I am glad you have found us. I have bipolar 1, and was diagnosed 5 yrs ago, but, was given Depakote, and I hated it. I went off my meds, and 5 yrs later, due to similar stuff you went through had a depressive break down, and started cycling all the time. I have a fiance , and 4 kids, and put them through a lot. I have been on meds this time for a year, and have found alot of different meds, that are available.

I would call you pdoc, and tell them about these side effects. I had some bad reactions to some of the meds I tried in the last year, too.

Hang out, vent, ask questions, and share. We are here for you.

God Bless,Gypsy

Welcome Scott,

I agree, you should get in touch with the Dr and let him/her know what happened.

Hi Scott - I am definitely no doctor (as I've said many times) - but when I read your description of what happened to your face, I immediately thought "Bells Palsy". Both my uncle and a good friend had it. Uncle's never went away, but friend's did. I could be WAYYYYY off on this one, but it just sounds sooo similar. BUT regardless of what's happening with that, I'm glad you are on your way to peace of mind!
