I am new to the group, but not to being bipolar. I have been bipolar for about 10 years. I have a 2 year old daughter and have been married to my husband for 8 years. This is my second marriage. The other one was I just turn 18 and it seemed like the thing to do.

Mental illness seems to run in the women in my family. I fear this because of my daughter.

My husband has done a little research but still has a hard time with it. If i show any kind of emotion, it is not creditable and I get, "Are you taking your meds?" Even after 8 years, I don't think he knows me as a person. It get very frustrating when I feel like I am not taken seriously. Hubby and I are just back from our first seperation. Things are stressed.

My daughter is like breath to me. When i am having a down day, she is why I get up. I try everyday to be a mom that she deserves. Many days I fail and I have a good cry that night in the shower (I cry in the shower so no one sees) and then get up and try again.

That is basically my life. I work full time and go to school part time. I took my last final last night (huge relief) and gradute on May 10th. I have been going to school for 5 years and so I don't know what I will do with my time now. It is a new chapter in my life.

Welcome Franniemarie,

I cry alone a lot, too. It is wonderful that you find inspiration in your daughter. Children can be such a joy.

Are you in treatment and taking meds?

Again, welcome.

DC

Welcome, FrannieMarie...glad you found us...and congratulations on on the graduation. You should pat yourself on the back for the accomplishment. I have to go to work...we can talk a little more later. I am sure there will be others to say Hi...soon...make yourself at home.

I am in therapy and have been with this therapist for over a year. I also take meds. I have an agreement with my therapist that if I stay on my meds, we will work on my issues. It seems to be working...most of the time!

That is great...a lot of the times we hear the stories of people having difficulties...and of course, we are here for them. But, is such a help to hear the successes too...thanks so much.

As for hubby's reaction i might be able to give two sidese...i have bipolar disease and sometimes i am moody. My husband just kind of leaves me alone til i feel more social. The other side is my son has bipolar disease and it is so difficult to see him struggle at times...i have to keep quiet and let him work through things and not jump in there to help...

Hi, Frannie, welcome to the group, Congratulations on Graduating, that is wonderful, some people have a hard time grasping that we are still entitled to emotions like they are, even if we do have bipolar, and most of them the first instinct is to ask if we have taken our meds, most of this is done out of their caring for us, and their concern for our wellbeing, just gently remind your husband that although you are bipolar you have normal emotions just like everyone else.

Hey, Bee don't be afraid...I know how you feel. I was petrified to post something when I found this site...but, it is a safe place. And there are lots of good people here. You are not alone.
