It is, from what I have read and experienced, one of the symptoms of the disorder. Impaired judgment is part of the package deal, and when in a manic, or hypomanic state, people who are BP may spend money or make investments which they would not normally otherwise have done.

Yes, spend money. Yes, stupid loans. Yes, feel bad. Yes, a reason but not an excuse. Yes, accountable for my actions and I have to pay this stuff back, which is why my wife is now in charge of family finances.

hi, rhino-it was weird to read this cuz i was just thinking about it. i don't spend like some do, but i spend more than i intend and that's the real point. for me, it seems to help when i spend when i haven't been sleeping. i have a very wise health professional who tells me that if you try to deny yourself something totally, you'll lose every time. I do better if i just give myself limits. for instance-i only have $50 to spend on silly stuff this week. i won't spend any more. then i pull it out in CASH so i can't use cards or checks and then don't carry those.

it doesn't always work, but it works better than trying nothing

peace. i know it's hard.

does drinking make matters worse. I don't drink that much maybe one a night and on weekends. If my daughter comes in town and some of her friends come over. i could drink ever night if given the chance. I know back when my wife and work with youth groups. We both stop drinking I didn't even have a beer. and thing seemed Ok then I was not going out and spending alot or lieing to her.
