When I was impatient years ago and with my subsequent out patient partials I was always most at peace when working my current issues out in person with other people in the same or similar circumstances. Unfortunately I have been so far unable to find any actual live support groups for depression or bi-polar and the likes, similar to say an AA or such. Do any of you know if these even exist and where I can find info on them, maybe some local or semi local to the salem mass area?

Your local hospital may have a listing of groups in your area. On the internet you can look up mental health in your area. Also, although we are not in person here it is live. Someone is usually awake all night here and there are group leaders who have lots of experience and are willing to share with you.
Comments made by me are from my own experience and they are my opinion alone, whose intent is only to share that opinion and not to give medical advice nor discourage from seeking medical help. Medicine is best left to the professionals that is what they do.

hey Hankdog, welcome to the group, like Norma said there is generally someone around here, and you can also go to the NAMI site on line, that is a foundation for the mentally ill, they have several groups they put on around the country, on their site you will find a place where you type in your state and town, and it will list groups for your area..

I was diagnosed 3 months ago with this terrible disorder...i can say that due to the fact that i almost lost the marriage of 13 years and my children. everyday is a huge struggle for me..i cry and cry and maybe laugh a few times just to help out my children. well here comes the question.: my doctor says that i was "in Mania" for 3+ years and now i need to let my brain rest...thus no antidepressants. so i am left with a shell of myself. Has anyone else dealt with their doctors withholding anti depressants? [/color]

I am off meds right now. I was dx about 6 years ago and was put on meds. I went through so many different combinations I can't count. About 3 years ago when I had a really bad spell I was taken off the meds and have now been off them for about 3 years. The first little while I had to kind of get used to my old self again(I had felt a little numb on meds.) but after a while I stabilized. It is only now that I am wanting to go back on them and I must say that I have had a seperate tramatic event which has caused me to backslide making me think it might help. Don't know if any of this has helped but I ll answer anything I can.

I was but with a mood stabilizer at the same time.
