NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE my son is being dischared tomorrow he is still VERY MANIC but is having racional thoughts at least the staff thinks so He is on new meds In past has stopped taking meds soon after coming home what can i do to help him .

encourage him to stay with his medications and if you really don't feel he is ready to be discharged try talking with his doctor.

I agree with Carmen. Offer him support and encouragement for anything that he does well. Reference times in his life when he was taking his meds and was doing well or made achievements. Reference things that he would like to do in the future and help him identify the reletionship between that and his medication. You know your son best, if you don't think that he is ready to come home then you should say so.
