Welcome!/ Giving it a name only helps them know how to treat it, so don't worry. I have a 5th grade son who has similar problems. He is being bullied and was suspended for making a list of kids who bully him. I understand. My son has been hospitalized for depression and is on medication. I fear he will have bipolar bc I have it. Of course, I feel guilty.

The good news is that my son's medication works. He is no longer anxious, suicidal and experiencing phantom pains. There is medication that will work for your son too. It just takes time to find the right mix.

Buy or borrow Bipolar for Dummies and read it. In fact, spend a period oof time reading everything you can about bipolar. Www.psycheducation.org is an outstanding site with an abundance of useful info. Check out the story on antidepressants that aren't antidepressants. Show your son the article on kindling (if he can understand and you approve) to explain why he must always stay on meds.

PM me anytime with any questions or just to chat. Take care.

You will find something for your son, it just takes time sometimes. I know you will support him, that is what he needs. Unconditional love, patience, and understanding. I agree that you should read all you can about bipolar and mood disorders. This will give you things to look for and ways to cope. I would suggest a therapist also. They can help you with coping strategies and you have a professional to talk to. We will also be here to support you through this. Post anywhere, we'll talk to you. I'm glad you are reaching out. This is a good thing. Welcome to the group!
