Hello everyone. I am in a 5 year relationship with a "mixed mania" man. Although he was diagnosed with bipolar 10 years ago, I didn't find out until this past summer when a severe episode ended in a stay in the psych ward. I am so stressed out and scared. I really care about him but I don't know if I can continue living with the daily mood swings which usually include some sort of drama. I haven't talked to anyone who understands what it is like having a SO with bipolar. Thank you all for being so open and honest - I think this is going to help me!!

Hello, Welcome!

I have found this site extremely helpful. My husband also has bipolar disorder. There are many of us here. It's good to be able to talk to others who are going through similar things. many people have given me advice that has helped when I needed it most. We're here for you.

welcome! (although I'm a newbie here too but been campingout here alot the last two days, so...)

Keep reading and posting. It was sooo healing and a big release for me to hear words that others wrote. It was spooky to hear the same things I would've typed. You're not alone, ok?

Thank you to all of you for your kind words. I am so confused right now. I was living with my bf but recently moved out because I'm so stressed. He isn't handling the move very well at all - he wants to get married. That's the furthest thing from my mind. Life has been really hard and I want to get far away from the drama - but it is still present every day. He has many great qualities, but I don't know if I can handle the illness? Do you feel like this?

My ex proposes to me on a regular basis over and over again-even with a protective order against him. It's hard not to give in to someone who wants to be with you so badly. Only you can make the choice of what is okay for your life and not. Try to think about it with all guilt and pressure put aside-it's your life, so what do you want from it? It would depend too if he is getting help he needs. Since discussing my ex with friends, I've found that most of them are Bipolar too! I can see it now, but they are nothing like him too because they work to better themselves and don't deny they need help to do it. One of my friends has even called me when she's not gotten her meds for a while for me to talk her into going and getting them. I think I'm attracted to Bipolar people bc of their playfulness, creativity and wonderful intellectual discussions I can have with them.
