Welcome to the group vero64. This is a very supportive group and I hope you will feel at home quickly. I am sorry about your breakdown and loss of good credit rating because of it. I agree, it isn't fair that you are having so much difficulty finding a place to live after having an eviction when you were hospitalized. That was something out of your control. Have you talked with anyone at HUD about it? Perhaps they can help you.

Hi vero64, Welcome to MDJ. This is a very encouraging, supportive and informative group. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or any other group leader via private message (PM).

I am so sorry about the discrimination you are experiencing in your attempts to find housing. I live in an apartment complex and was having problems that I believed were discrimination-related, so I contacted our state's Department of Fair Housing (it has a longer name - I can't recall it) and they straightened it out. I hope something opens up for you and you get a break.

Bipolar II, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Attacks, Agoraphobia & PTSD; Alcoholic in recovery since 3/21/07.

Aplenzin 522mg; Pristiq 200mg; Lamictal 400mg; Geodon 160mg; Ativan 1mg TID; Deplin 15mg; Xanax PRN; Metoprol 100mg.

Hi, I have an eviction from a crazy mania, and it's always been difficult for me to find apartments since. I don't know about section 8, but I do know that when I offer to pay a double deposit and have a co-signer most apartments will take a chance on me.

I know that making a big deposit and having a co-signer isn't an option for everyone, so I apologize if that wouldn't work for you - just thought I'd offer my experience.

It's always so embarrassing to talk to apartments. The other thing is that I will tell apartments that I was evicted because I had to abandon my apartment due to an abusive boyfriend rather than telling them I abandoned it because of bipolar mania. That story suits them better than the bipolar story because it means it's unlikely to happen again whereas mania comes fairly frequently (or it used to before I stopped taking meds every spring).

Anyway, it sounds like you have it very together, and I'm sorry that you're having to deal with this now. Stay strong and know you're not alone.
